OVERVIEW
Intro To Position
Joining a growing Development division, the Senior Manager of Prospect Development will lead the Prospect Development Team and serve as a strategic partner to the Individual and Institutional Giving teams. This leader will manage the development of high-level research briefings, drive portfolio optimization, and oversee pipeline development to ensure NPR’s fundraising efforts are data-informed and highly-targeted. Beyond prospect development, this individual will act as a key advisor for Salesforce architecture, recommending system enhancements and reports and dashboards necessary to visualize philanthropic impact.
The ideal candidate will have extensive expertise in prospect development and a successful track record of aligning with cross-functional teams to drive philanthropic growth using a data-driven approach.
Responsibilities
• Supervises the Prospect Development team providing mentorship and supporting professional development.
• Conducts high-level research to identify prospects, validate capacity ratings, and deliver comprehensive donor briefings.
• Provides strategic oversight of prospect management policies, staff training and the adoption of Salesforce enhancements and processes.
• Oversees wealth screening processes and assignment of new prospects.
• Develops and maintains a robust prospect pipeline, monitoring movement through the fundraising cycle to support team strategies.
• Facilitates regular portfolio reviews with fundraisers and leadership to review gift opportunities, monitor pipeline velocity, and refine conversion strategies.
• Tracks performance metrics and pipeline progress for both individual fundraisers and collective giving teams.
• Partners with fundraisers to build robust prospect pools, ensuring alignment with fundraising priorities.
• Supports moves management by tracking prospect progression and ensuring fundraisers adhere to established engagement and tracking protocols.
• Monitors and analyzes the prospect pipeline to illuminate strategic opportunities, flag potential risks, and provide the clarity needed for data-backed decision-making.
• Leads database screenings to support analysis for prospect segmentation and maximize donor solicitation strategies
• Partners with the Donor Operation Specialist to develop portfolio analytics and reporting that drive effective moves management.
• Collaborates with the Senior Salesforce Administrator on Salesforce to identify and problem-solve issues, recommend enhancements for effective tracking and support training needs.
• Maintains expertise in industry best practices through active engagement with professional associations and continuing education.

Minimum Qualifications
• At least three years of experience in prospect development.
• Comprehensive understanding of major gifts fundraising principles and practices.
• A strategic thinker with a natural curiosity to continually improve results and experiment with new methods and ideas.
• Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
• A demonstrated ability to work alongside front-line gift officers in a unified, team-oriented approach to portfolio management.
• Advanced proficiency in using a variety of research tools and relational databases.
• Detail-oriented, with strong organizational, analytical, and time management skills.
• Able to be tactful, discreet, diplomatic and can handle confidential information appropriately.
• Possesses a strong mentorship mindset.
Preferred Qualifications
• Supervisory experience.
• Proficiency in Salesforce.
• Experience working with DonorSearch, iWave and RelSci.
Education Requirement
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in work experience
Work Location
• NPR Remote-Permitted: This is a remote-permitted role. This role is based out of our Washington, D.C. office, but the employee may choose to work on a remote basis from a location that NPR approves. You will have the option of working (a) remotely from a location of your choosing within the United States that is supported by NPR; (b) on-site at an NPR facility, based on the availability of desks and approval from NPR; or (c) a combination of both. Regardless of where you choose to work from, you may be expected to travel to other locations from time to time to perform the duties of your position.
