YCAA Inc. is seeking an ambitious Literary Agent / Manager, Film & Television to help grow our expanding literary representation division.

This is an opportunity for someone who wants to build something, not simply step into a traditional support role. The successful candidate will have significant autonomy to develop and manage a roster of screenwriters, writer-directors and creators while working within an established Canadian talent agency.

We are particularly interested in candidates coming from talent representation, film and television development, production, publishing, rights, acquisitions or other areas of the entertainment industry. Previous experience as an agent is welcome, but it is not essential. A strong understanding of storytelling, excellent communication skills, industry instincts and the ability to build relationships matter just as much.

Workplace: This position is primarily remote / flexible. We do have an office space and boardroom with Toronto-area availability preferred for select meetings. There are some industry events and festivals that will require attendance.

What you’ll do:

• Identify, recruit and represent promising writers, creators and literary talent
• Develop client careers and help position material for the marketplace
• Pitch writers and projects to producers, production companies, broadcasters, studios, streamers and other industry partners
• Build and maintain relationships across the Canadian and international film and television industry
• Review scripts, treatments, pitches and other creative material
• Help clients develop strategy around projects, submissions and career opportunities

Who we’re looking for:

You are entrepreneurial, resourceful and genuinely interested in discovering and developing talent. You understand that representation is ultimately a relationship business and are comfortable introducing yourself, developing contacts, pitching material and creating opportunities.

Experience in an agency, management company, production company, broadcaster, studio, publishing house or development environment is an asset. Emerging professionals with strong industry knowledge and the ambition to move into representation are also encouraged to apply.

Compensation and opportunity:

This is a freelance, commission-based position with compensation tied to the business generated through the literary roster. The structure is designed to provide meaningful upside as the agent builds their client base and closes opportunities.

The role also provides access to YCAA’s existing agency infrastructure, industry relationships and growing network. Additional opportunities may include attendance at select screenings, festivals, markets and industry events, including events surrounding TIFF and the Canadian Screen Awards, subject to availability and accreditation.

The position offers considerable flexibility and autonomy. For the right person, there is also an opportunity to take on increasing responsibility and play a significant role in building YCAA’s literary business over the long term.

YCAA is based in the Greater Toronto Area. The role can be performed primarily remotely, although candidates with the ability to participate in Toronto industry events and occasional in-person meetings are preferred.
