VIBE is looking to add an exceptional Associate Editor to its growing team. Since the early ‘90s, VIBE has been an authoritative voice, celebrating and reporting on the Black experience and its multi-cultural impact on Music, TV/Film, Fashion, and Lifestyle. VIBE is about the message, the mood, and the movement that informs and inspires the masses.

We seek an Associate Editor who can stay on the pulse of trending stories in entertainment and current events. This team player has strong news judgment, values the importance of presenting the facts, and sees opportunities to spark online conversation around topics that impact and matter to us. This position is for a solid editor and writer who can perform in a fast-paced environment, meet deadlines, and urgently tackle breaking news. Investigative reporting experience is a plus for this role.

The full-time Associate Editor will be based in the New York City area and will report to the News Editor and Executive Editor.

What You’ll Do:
• Write accurate and concise news articles with a sense of urgency
• Assist News Editor with the assignment and editing of news articles
• Review news posts for accuracy, errors, structure, and verified sources
• Ensure uploaded content utilizes SEO best practices and abides by VIBE’s style guide
• Help oversee breakout stories and/or evergreen lists based on news and current events
• Assign stories to the evening and/or weekend writer(s) as needed
• Occasionally interview subjects for original reports and features
• Compile weekly newsletter and update VIBE’s homepage carousels

Qualifications:

• At least 2 years of experience as an editor on a media website
• An active social media user who stays on top of entertainment news
• Knowledge of VIBE’s legacy and the history of Black pop culture
• Background in reporting and writing in a newsroom
• Solid familiarity of the Associated Press Stylebook

Typical wage range: $60k - $75k

Factors that could be used to determine your actual salary may include your specific skills, years of experience and comparison to current employees already in this role. The typical candidate is hired below midpoint of the range. The total compensation package for this position will also include other elements, a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits including 401(k) eligibility and paid time off benefits.
