Versant Media is seeking a dedicated Production Support Engineer to join our dynamic Production
Media Engineering group. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring seamless on-air
productions by supporting all production systems at Versant Media Locations in Englewood Cliffs, NJ, and
New York, NY. This also includes our Remote Production sites in Washington DC and West Coast
locations in LA and San Francisco.
You will be troubleshooting, diagnosing, and solving any technical issues that arise during live broadcasts
and production control rooms, studios, distribution/automation, master control, and related equipment
for all Versant Properties. This role is pivotal to Versant Media's commitment to deliver high-quality
news, sports, and entertainment 24/7. You will be maintaining the integrity of cutting-edge broadcasting
technology and collaborating with Engineering and Operations to optimize broadcast workflows in a
fast-paced environment.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have knowledge and experience in the following areas:
• 2 years of recent experience supporting live, television production environments.
• Act as one of the on-call engineers, addressing technical support requests from studio/control room and production operations.
• Analyze and troubleshoot complex audio/video workflows and signal flows in SDI and IP 2110 environments.
• Knowledge and experience with HDSDI/Embedded and discrete audio analog and digital formats, including AES and MADI and others such as AES67, Ravenna and Dante.
• Maintain broadcast technology systems to ensure reliability throughout the entire production environment. Experience with video production systems and workflows for live and taped programming such as switchers, video routers, encoders/decoders, and studio equipment.
• Knowledge and related experience with virtualized systems including VMs, Containers and Orchestration.
• Detailed knowledge of master control technologies, workflows, compression, and uplink systems.
• Strong understanding of digital & signal workflows.
• Solid understanding of TCP/IP Protocols with knowledge of computer networking and storage infrastructures.
• Up to date with industry trends and emerging technologies.
• Client-focused support – Understand and prioritize on-air issues and work with Operations to ensure minimal show disruptions.
• Document issues and their resolutions and escalate to advanced support teams and management as needed.
• Ability to work alone as a lead and as part of a team.
• Bachelor's degree in film production, Broadcasting, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or related field or equivalent work experience.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Knowledge and experience with Evertz products, including control systems such as Magnum, EXE
• Routers, SDVN, VUE, VIP, and more.
• Knowledge of SMPTE 2110 standards.
• Knowledge and experience with SONY Production Switchers, Studio Cameras, and other Studio systems.
• Knowledge and experience with VizRT, Ross, and Chyron.
• Experience with Transmission, Fiber, and Encode/Decode Distribution and Transport Systems.
• Experience with Cloud and VM Based applications and platforms.
• Ability to read and interpret AutoCAD drawings.
• Proficiency with AUTOCAD, MS Office Suite, Windows, Linux, Mac OS.
• Experience with JIRA, Confluence, and other project and ticketing systems.
• Technical enthusiasm and an eagerness to never stop learning.
• Strong organizational and communication skills.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced live production environment.
• Ability to support a 24/7 live production environment, which includes weekends, overnights, and holiday shift work.
Additional Requirements:
• Onsite: This position has been designated as onsite, contributing from the office five days per week. Must be willing to work rotational shifts, evenings, overnights, weekends, and holidays.
