The A Side: A Day in The Life
The primary responsibility of the Tax Manager will be the management of compliance with Tax reporting requirements for Universal Music Group's business units (BU) in the UK as well as providing advice on tax issues where required. The Tax Manager will establish and maintain strong relationships with the Global Tax and BU Finance teams to help effectively address business issues.
The B Side: Skills & Experience
Be Knowledgeable
• Responsible for the delivery of mixed tax portfolio covering corporate, employment, VAT and international taxes in order to ensure the Group's compliance with Tax reporting requirements
• Support tax audits of entities and deal with enquiries and/or requests from HMRC
• Keep abreast of changes in tax legislation and where planning opportunities arise, participate in their analysis and implementation
• Assist in maintaining relevant tax regulations (including transfer pricing, SAO, CIR, CBCR, Tax Strategy etc) on an ongoing basis
• Understand the businesses, so that future tax developments can be transitioned in a timely manner
• Provide tax advice to the business as required
Be Collaborative
• Support the Head of UK Tax in the Group's relationship with our CCM at the Large Business Office to maintain the desired risk level
• Be a main point of contact and responsible for managing the relationship with Tax authorities and consultants in relation to all taxes
• Provide support to the Group in respect of tax aspects of acquisition/disposals, restructurings or commercial arrangements
• Build effective working relationships with other departments and functions
Person Specification
Necessary
• Proven experience of mixed tax compliance experience likely gained in-house or in an accounting/consulting firm
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work well in an international team
• Self-sufficient (able to work with ambiguity and complexity but without supporting infrastructure), whilst also being a good team player
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and an ability to build win-win working relationships internally and externally
• Excellent organisational skills
• Robust and able to manage in a rapidly changing environment and challenge the status quo
• Act with integrity and credibility
Desirable
• Knowledge/Experience of the Music & Film Industries or business
• Good communicator - must be able to convey tax technical issues in layman's terms
