As the Senior Director, Employee Relations, you will provide thought leadership and employee relations expertise to ensure a positive, ethical, and inclusive workplace environment as well as roll up your sleeves to lead, advise and tackle investigations. The position partners closely with the in-house employment legal team, and external employment law counsel as well as People Business Partners in driving consistent ER process across the organization while minimizing risk and ensuring a positive workplace environment. You will be both an internal consultant and advisor on lower risk ER / Performance Management (to the People Business Partner Team) and also take the lead on complex / higher risk matters, often partnering with our internal legal team, external team, Chief People & Inclusion Officer, and senior executives. The role will report into the Senior Vice President of People Business Partners and Employee Relations. This is a remote-friendly role – the person can live in any of the contiguous United States, assuming they can travel when needed to our major office locations.
How you'll CREATE:
• Guide and drive strategies to resolve difficult and/or sensitive workplace matters
• Act as a central, objective resource for employees and management, providing coaching and guidance on internal investigations related to discrimination claims, claims of harassment, policy violations and other reported issues. Conduct investigations as applicable.
• Directly conduct or oversee investigations that tend to be most complex, have significant risk or are high visibility situations. Act as a collaborator and consulting partner for ER team members on complex questions and cases.
• Programmatic co-ownership (with legal) of anonymous reporting tool for workplace issues.
• Provide consultative advice and guidance to People Business Partners on low and medium risk Employee Relations matters.
• Guide and coach People Business Partners and managers on how to appropriately manage and resolve complex ER issues
• Partner with the UMG Legal team on higher risk/profile ER matters
• Partner with Business Resilience/Future of Work, Security, and Facilities to monitor and implement return to office framework in compliance with government and CDC guidance.
• Develop and drive consistent tools and process related to Employee Relations including data driven insights, trends, and ad-hoc ER reporting to help improve performance, retention, and employee experience.
• Proactive training to employees, managers and HR-focused on prevention of workplace issues
• Act as the advocate for ER with a focus on enhancing the awareness and practices of leaders and managers. Understand the client groups, strategy, challenges, business initiatives and business model.
Bring your VIBE:
• 12 years of expertise in ER and/or as a HR Business Partner, including experience with conflict resolution and leading complex investigations at all levels, including executive.
• Experience practicing HR/ER in a fast-paced, unstructured, and/or creative industry (music, fashion, retail, television, advertising, hospitality, etc.) a plus.
• Progressive views on ER/HR practices
• Understanding of, and experience with, core aspects of Human Resource (talent acquisition; compensation, performance management; leadership development; coaching and training; org design and effectiveness)
• Contribute to an environment of positive employee experience, establishing credibility and trust, being seen by employees as approachable and fair, while balancing business needs with employee needs.
• Ability to think strategically and translate concepts into actionable items
• Ability to execute and excel in a flexible organization, comfortable working in ambiguous business situations and advising accordingly
• Ability to lead and manage people effectively, including leading through influence versus direct oversight/management
• Must possess consultative style and approach with proven ability to develop credible relationships
• Proactive problem solver with a service provider approach
• Proven ability to influence decision making
• Excellent communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills
• Exercise a high degree of professionalism and diplomacy in interactions with all levels of the organization
• Highly adaptable to a fluid and ever-changing work environment
• Strong knowledge in employment laws; multi-state experience required
• Travel will be required, sometimes with little notice
• Bachelor's Degree required, preferably in a relevant field with HR-related coursework- JD is a plus
