Universal Music Group is currently seeking a Manager, Business Development for our New York City office.
Business Unit Overview:
eLabs is UMG’s digital music strategy and business development group, responsible for defining UMG’s digital strategy via content licensing deals, leveraging of emerging technologies and the creation of new business models for digital music and video assets. eLabs is based in Los Angeles with an office in New York, and is comprised of Advanced Technology, Business Affairs and Business Development professionals. This position will be located in New York.
Responsibilities:
• Act as a key participant in developing UMG’s digital music strategy for applications of current and future technologies.
• Negotiate deals with online retailers, wireless carriers, content aggregators, application developers, and infrastructure providers to grow UMG’s digital music business. Interface with business affairs to manage deal negotiation through execution.
• Evaluate and develop recommendations on business opportunities with potential distribution, marketing and technology partners.
• Perform industry and market research for deal evaluation and strategy, including areas such as: digital downloads, music subscription models, mobile personalization products, satellite and internet radio, ad-supported business models and peer-to-peer platforms.
• Develop, analyze and assess the economics of new business models and pending deals.
• Develop an in-depth understanding of digital audio and video streaming / downloading, peer-to-peer networking technologies, digital rights management formats, and copyright and intellectual property issues.

Job Requirements:
• BS/BA degree with 3-6 years of work experience.
• Ideal prior work experience: corporate development for a media company; management consulting; investment banking or other quantitative financial background. Focus on technology, internet, mobile or entertainment industries.
• A strong desire to be part of the fastest growing business segment inside the entertainment industry.
• Advanced Excel user, able to create and run detailed financial models (for example, build a P&L and run scenarios to analyze a subscription business).
• Excellent communication skills and strategy development capabilities.
• Must be able to develop PowerPoint presentations that convey complex issues clearly and concisely.
• Strong interest in music and digital media preferred.
• Some knowledge of and experience with current events and technologies in the digital music industry.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
• Ability to multi-task and manage competing priorities. Must be able to work under time constraints.
