Instructional Designer (Contract)
Description
This contract position will contribute to building and delivering engaging learning experiences that will help shape UMG's culture and development programs. Using blended and innovative learning approaches, the right hire will play a key role in the design, build and development of employee curricula that is valued by the business. Job Functions:
• Analyzes needs and synthesizes learnings to build a plan to address gaps and requests
• Designs and develops innovative, and engaging learning materials
• Effectively uses technology to create innovative and engaging learning content
• Takes a consultative approach by looking at challenges and solutions from multiple perspectives
• Builds a project plan, including design and execution (to engage project teams and key stakeholders)
• Develops content and performance-support resources that support employees throughout the learning lifecycle of topic (pre, during, and post )
• Executes the complete training cycle including: needs analysis, design, development, delivery and evaluation of transfer effectiveness
• Selects training tools or training delivery mechanisms, based on the material being taught and the audience being targeted
• Creates course content, curates relevant resources, and builds curriculum for targeted groups
• Understands the benefits and challenges of most learning modalities; is able to determine the best learning medium for the greatest impact; has diverse experience with various formats (instructor-led, web-based, blended)
• Collaborates with internal SMEs and the LOD team on course development and revision including course design documents, learning objectives, course content, scenarios, media scripts, and practice activities
• Converts existing modules, content, and curriculums into eLearning or blended content
• Manages times efficiently so that tasks are complete and on time, problems are anticipated and team members are clear on project requirements and schedules
• Keeps current on emerging technology, maintains knowledge of adult learning theory and industry innovations
Examples of projects our hire will own or play a key supporting role:
• Project management, content review, and branding of vendor materials
• Content design and development: new manager modules / resources guides
• Content design and development: productivity training
Job Requirements:
Skills/Abilities:
• Excellent ability to analyze learning needs, synthesize needs, and build a clear plan to address gaps and requests
• Excellent ISD skills using various content authoring tools and modalities (Captivate, Articulate, MS PowerPoint, etc)
• Exceptional communication skills (written and interpersonal); writing and speaking clearly and concisely
• Proven track record in learning and development, with experience in developing, designing, and implementing engaging curricula for a variety of audiences in a range of formats
• Exceptional planning, organization, coordination and collaboration skills
• High level of professionalism, presence and credibility
• Project management experience
• Track record of skilfully managing and executing multiple deliverables simultaneously
• Self-motivated, positive and agile attitude
• Experience of getting things done through influence, planning, and managing multiple priorities
• Experience working in the Entertainment industry, Technology industry, Media/Creative/Ad industry or at a startup
Desired Qualifications
• Graduate or advanced degree, with emphasis in human resources, training, e-learning, training/learning technology, education, or related field
• Industry recognized certifications in instructional design and content programs
• Experience facilitating engaging content using various online tools and modalities
• Prior experience with a Learning Management System (LMS) preferred
• Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook and Office Suite – Word, PowerPoint, Excel
Additional Qualifications:
• Ability to travel to Santa Monica to work on-site at least 2 or 3 days a week (remaining weekdays may be remote)
• Will not consider fully remote candidates; LA-area candidates only please
Experience:
• 5 years experience in Instructional Design and Program Development (designing engaging content, resources and presentations for employees / managers)
• 2 years Learning and Development Consulting experience
• 2 years of direct experience with developing content and experiences for employees, people managers, and new hires
Education:
• Bachelor’s degree in Instructional Design, Human Performance Technology, or related field with emphasis in human resources, training, e-learning, training/learning technology, education, or related field
