Description
Are you interested in the music industry? Do you want to develop forward-thinking ways to impact the music industry using data?
Universal Music Group is looking for an Analyst to join the Data & Analytics team. The D&A team is led by professionals with finance and consulting backgrounds. Past D&A alums have gone on to enroll in top business schools, work closely with UMG’s record labels, or move to other project management or business development roles.
The Analyst will consult on projects for Senior Executives, as well as individuals within Global Digital Strategy, Global Marketing, Business Development, Global Communications, Commercial Partnerships, and Finance business units. The ideal candidate should have quantitative experience (financial modeling, Excel, PowerPoint, SQL, data visualization). Candidates should also demonstrate a solid understanding (or an eagerness to learn) the business models that are currently revolutionizing digital and subscription-based media.
What Bandmember Are You?
• Work with stakeholders to understand goal of requests
• Write SQL scripts to extract necessary data and conduct further analysis in Excel
• Use data to identify user/partner trends, including user engagement, listening habits, conversion, retention, monetization, genre insights, among many others
• Develop dynamic models to help with negotiations (e.g., with Spotify, Apple), executive presentations, etc.
• Form a narrative through the distillation and interpretation of large amounts of data/deep dive analysis
• Deliver data-driven recommendations to stakeholders in a clear and concise manner
• Demonstrated ability to manage requests in a professional manner, communicate findings to a variety of different audience types (from Senior Executives to fellow Analysts)
• Work in project teams to answer interesting questions in a consultative fashion.

How You Will Rock Your Role
• 0-2 years’ experience in data analysis and insights, working with analytical tools including, Excel, SQL, BigQuery, DOMO, Tableau, etc.
• Experience (preferred) managing and engaging with clients in a consultative or analytical capacity
• Passion and curiosity for music and the data that is used within the industry
• Quantitative background, with experience (or willingness to learn) SQL and Excel
• Familiarity with statistical concepts and tools, along with the ability to use them effectively in analyses
• Ability to visualize data using PowerPoint and other tools
• Ability to balance multiple projects and deadlines
• Comfortable walking through analysis, communicating findings to executives and/or a broader audience
• Ability to build relationships across business units, work well in a collaborative team environment
• BS in Business, Economics, Computer Science, Mathematics, or other quantitative degree preferred
