TIFF - THE MARKET
We are currently hiring for the position of:
SENIOR MANAGER, COMMUNICATIONS - MARKET
The Senior Manager, Communications – Market will lead corporate and event communications to elevate brand visibility and position TIFF: The Market as a must-attend global industry event. Reporting to the Director of Marketing and Communications – Market, this role oversees media relations, executive communications, content strategy, and stakeholder messaging for B2B and B2C audiences.
The Senior Manager, Communications will drive and execute internal and external communication strategies supporting the roll-out of the Market, ensuring alignment with TIFF’s overall Communication and Stakeholder Relations Strategy and working within TIFF’s overarching Communication principles. This role requires expertise in developing strategic communications plans, managing complex campaigns, fostering relationships across multiple stakeholder groups, and driving innovative strategies that deliver measurable results.
The role requires deep experience in entertainment, media, or screen-based industries, along with a strong understanding of trade and consumer press landscapes.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Strategic Communication Leadership
• Develop and execute comprehensive communications strategies aligned with organizational goals.
• Ensure consistent brand voice across all external communications channels.
• Support leadership interview training and media preparation.
Team and Cross-Functional Collaboration
• Collaborate with the Director of Marketing and Communications - Market on messaging for sales, programming, partnerships, sponsorships, and other key initiatives.
• Serve as a key liaison between executive leadership and communications teams, ensuring alignment and timely execution of strategic initiatives.
• Collaborate with the Director of Marketing and Communications and external PR agencies on all media tactics
Content Development and Messaging
• Draft press releases, e-communications, remarks, and executive briefing documents.
• Help shape key messaging for The Market and executives via high-quality communication materials across all channels while maintaining TIFF brand voice.
• Support organizational change efforts with clear, effective communication plans.
Media and Stakeholder Engagement
• Lead media relations strategies targeting domestic and international outlets.
• Cultivate and manage relationships with trade and consumer journalists across film, television, and immersive media.
• Oversee advance press accreditation and on-site media operations during The Market.
• Manage red carpet, press conferences, and media-facing moments before and during The Market.
• Support strategic partnerships by ensuring communications objectives are integrated and executed.
Performance Measurement and Reporting
• Monitor media coverage/trends and provide regular reporting and insights.
• Establish and track KPIs to measure the success and impact of communications strategies and campaigns.
• Identify opportunities for process improvement and implement best practices to enhance effectiveness.
Decision-Making and Scope of Influence
• Ability to make recommendations on communications strategies, content development, execution with a high level of professionalism and diplomacy.
• Recommend improvements to communications processes that positively impact the function and contribute to TIFF’s broader communications strategy.
TARGET CONTRACT DATES:
• Immediate or upon availability
WORK LOCATION:
• Office Location: 350 King Street West, Toronto, ON M5V 3X5
• Weekly in-office requirements:
• Minimum 2 days (1st November – 30th April)
• Minimum 3 days (1st May – 31st October)
• Festival Office Requirements: Full Time during Festival
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
• 7–10 years of progressive communications experience, preferably within the film, television, streaming, or live event industries.
• Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or related field.
• Proven track record of securing coverage in major trade, consumer, and business outlets.
• Exceptional writing and editing skills, with experience drafting executive-level materials.
• Strong understanding of the global entertainment industry ecosystem and content market dynamics.
• Experience supporting large-scale live events, festivals, or markets is highly desirable.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple high-profile announcements under tight deadlines.
• Strong crisis communications and issues management experience preferred.
• Bilingualism (English/French) is an asset but not a requirement
