Studio Engineer - Self-Tape & Podcast Production

This is a Part Time Job

We are looking for a Studio Engineer to work in our shared production space serving both actors and podcast clients.

This is a hybrid creative and technical position. The ideal candidate is someone who is equally comfortable working directly with actors and talent and operating professional camera, lighting, and audio equipment.
On the self-tape side, you will work directly with actors who book the studio-reading opposite them, helping them prepare and rehearse, providing thoughtful performance notes, and creating a comfortable environment where they can do their best work.

On the podcast side, you will engineer recording sessions from setup through delivery, including camera operation, lighting, audio, live-switching when necessary, and organizing and delivering raw media to clients.
The role requires someone who is technically capable, creatively minded, personable, and comfortable taking ownership of a session from beginning to end.

Responsibilities
Self-Tape Studio

Read and tape with actors who book the self-tape studio.

Help actors rehearse and prepare for auditions in a professional, supportive environment.
Provide thoughtful notes and feedback on performance and the quality of the tape when appropriate.
Create a safe, welcoming, and inviting environment where actors feel comfortable experimenting and preparing their work.

Properly light and shoot actors using professional cinema cameras.

Ensure framing, exposure, focus, audio, and overall image quality meet professional standards.
Manage and organize footage for delivery.

Podcast Studio

Engineer podcast sessions for clients booking the studio.

Set up, operate, and monitor a three-camera cinema camera setup.
Properly light hosts and guests for a consistent, professional visual look.
Set up microphones and position them appropriately relative to each subject.
Monitor audio levels throughout the session and troubleshoot technical issues as they arise.
Operate the recording system and ensure all camera and audio sources are properly captured.
Provide live-switching during podcast sessions when necessary.
Organize and deliver raw video and audio materials to clients using established file-management and delivery systems.
Reset and maintain the studio between sessions.
Create a professional, comfortable, and inviting experience for both new and returning clients.

Qualifications
Experience engineering or producing podcast recordings.
Experience operating professional cameras, preferably Sony cinema cameras such as the FX3, FX30, or similar systems.
Strong understanding of basic camera operation, exposure, focus, framing, and composition.
Experience working with or directing actors, performers, or on-camera talent.
Knowledge of professional lighting fundamentals.
Comfortable working with microphones, audio levels, XLR connections, and basic audio troubleshooting.
Familiarity with basic editing and media-management workflows.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to troubleshoot technical problems independently and remain calm under pressure.
Reliable, organized, and attentive to detail.

The Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is someone who understands that running a good studio session is about more than operating equipment. You should be comfortable talking to an actor who is nervous before an audition, giving them a note that helps improve their performance, and then switching gears to troubleshoot an audio or camera issue during a podcast recording. You don't need to be an expert in every area, but you should be technically curious, creatively minded, personable, and willing to take ownership of the entire production experience.
