This is a Part Time Unpaid Internship
Strand Releasing is looking for a few good interns for the fall semester.
Strand is an independent film distribution company releasing films theatrically, digitally, and on DVD/Blu-ray. Strand specializes in gay and lesbian films and also distributes a variety of foreign films, American independent films, and documentaries. Led by Marcus Hu and Jon Gerrans, for over 25 years, Strand has been on the cutting edge of independent cinema in the U.S.
Interns for Strand should be prepared to commit at least two full work days per week to Strand. Strand relies on interns for critical support functions that give the student an in-depth learning experience. We expect interns to be on time and to be present when scheduled.
Strand interns will learn about independent film distribution, film publicity and marketing, and film acquisition.
Typical intern jobs:
Publicity and Marketing - Interns will do direct e-mail and social media marketing to targeted groups such as fansites, Meetup groups, university departments and cultural organizations. Interns will also learn how to research reviews, identify pull quotes for publicity, and maintain the history of film publicity. Interns will create and mail out film screeners to reviewers and wholesalers.
Quality Control in Film Production - Interns will learn how to perform quality control reviews for the creation of discs.
Reviewing Films for Acquisition - Interns will review film screeners acquired from film festivals or film sales agents and write coverage on these films to recommend whether Strand should consider the film for purchase.
DVD Order Fulfillment - Interns will assist Strand staff to fulfill orders for DVDs / Blu-ray finished goods. This might include managing inventory.
Anti-Piracy - Interns will monitor YouTube for pirated copies of Strand films and submit copyright information to YouTube
Other jobs as assigned. Strand always has special projects. Often this means archiving or re-organizing files. We are looking for interns who are flexible and interested in all aspects of the film business.
Interns will have the opportunity to participate in meetings where decision are made on film distribution strategy.
Interns will not make coffee (except for themselves!)
You must be a registered student who can receive credit for this internship in order to be considered.
Internships are available for the fall term 2015.
