Sr Systems Engineer, Network
The IT Sr. Systems Engineer will be a senior member of the network team, helping support the uptime and management of all SPE Global Network Services Infrastructure. The role is responsible for providing network support, including problem determination and resolution, technical solution development, assessing policies, procedures and processes governing the use and operation of the company's global network infrastructure assets.
This position requires an emphasis on problem management, as well as building and maintaining positive business relationships within the IT organization, clients and vendors. Fulfillment of responsibilities must be performed with a minimum amount of supervision.
Core Responsibilities:
1. System Engineering Support: 30%
• Perform installations and configurations of multiple networking devices (i.e., Routers, Switches, Firewalls, Service Modules, security appliances, IP addressing, etc.)
• Establish standards for network hardware and services
• Establish network usage policies and communicate policies to affected audience(s)
• Develop performance management procedures for network infrastructure
• Manage and maintain network resources, globally, throughout the enterprise
• Manage IT stakeholder relationships to ensure proper service levels and availability of all networks
• Manage outages, identify root cause and resolve all network issues within allowed service levels
2. IT Operations Support: 40%
• Quickly resolve outages, identify root cause and resolve all network issues within allowed service levels.
• Participate in daily production meeting, report on production systems status
• Participate in change control, production acceptance and event management processes
• Participate in development of operational procedures and policies
• Participate in development of a viable, cost-effective disaster recovery capability
• Update/distribute monthly reports; track progress against internal and external service levels.
• Communicate change requests, issues and resolutions, event status as well other important matters to appropriate stakeholders
• Identify, resolve and escalate business issues as appropriate
• Manage after hours and on-call support as necessary
• Manage network capacity and provide network utilization statistics to the capacity planner
3. Develop and maintain project plans for medium to large sized network projects: 15%
4. Provide oral and written status reports to IT management and customers: 15%
Requirements:
Detailed knowledge of Cisco hardware platforms, switching, routing (including EIGRP, BGP), IOS, IPv4, IPv6, TCP, cabling infrastructure, firewalls, remote access systems, wireless, MPLS, VRF, VPN, multicast, WAN acceleration, wide area networking technologies, DNS/DHCP/NTP (Infoblox), authentication technologies, 802.1x, spanning-tree, layer 2 security, RADIUS/TACACS/ISE, QoS, F5 load-balancing
Strong awareness of non-networking IT disciplines such as Windows and Linux server systems, clustering, storage area networks, RSA, information security, PKI, Active Directory, multi-tiered application architecture and possess understanding of how to support these applications/protocols when accessed through VPN and firewall appliances.
- Minimum 10 years employment in the IT industry working with a major systems and vendors.
- Minimum 8 years experience with Cisco based network environments
- Minimum 5 years experience with multi-tiered network infrastructure environment
- Minimum 3 years experience with Palo Alto firewalls and Cisco ASA.
- Minimum 3 years experience of defining and realizing major technology initiatives ( 12 months duration)
- Two or more years of entertainment experience is a plus.
- Experience with Cisco Call Manager Systems is a plus
- Bachelor degree or equivalent experience preferred
