Reporting to the Manager, Physical Security Systems, the Security Senior Service Technician supports the installation, maintenance, repair, and operational reliability of physical security infrastructure across facilities. This role focuses on field-based execution and hands-on service delivery to ensure system performance, compliance, and operational continuity.
The Technician works closely with the Security Technology Group (STG), security integration partners, officer staff, IT, and studio trades to maintain access control, video surveillance, intrusion detection, intercom, and related physical security systems. This role is field-focused and execution-driven, with advanced programming and configuration responsibilities within delegated authority.
This role executes within Manager-defined standards and project parameters and does not hold strategic, architectural, or enterprise budget authority.
Key Responsibilities
Service, Repair & Preventative Maintenance (Primary Focus):
• Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair malfunctioning physical security equipment and associated software.
• Perform preventative maintenance activities to ensure system reliability, compliance, and uptime.
• Support system resiliency by addressing hardware failures, connectivity issues, and device-level troubleshooting.
• Perform work in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations as well as company safety policies and procedures.
• Follow OSHA safety guidelines and safely operate ladders, scissor lifts, and articulating lifts.
• Support Security Technology Group initiatives based on operational priorities and field requirements.
• Serve as the on-site technical lead for field troubleshooting and repair activities.
• Provide guidance and technical support to junior technicians and contractors in the field as required.
Installation & Commissioning:
• Install, configure, and perform advanced programming within access control, video, and intrusion platforms. Test, repair, and service IP-based and analog security systems including access control, video surveillance, intercoms, and intrusion/perimeter detection.
• Install and properly mount network accessories (cameras, readers, intercoms, brackets, enclosures, etc.).
• Read blueprints, schematics, manuals, and wiring diagrams to determine installation procedures.
• Operate systems to demonstrate functionality and assist in commissioning new installations.
• Support small project coordination efforts under Manager direction.
• Identify and communicate quality concerns, scope observations, and process improvement opportunities.
• Support installation and maintenance of mechanical security components including gate operators, barrier arms, mechanical turnstiles, and optical turnstiles (as applicable).
Fire / Life-Safety Support (as assigned):
• Support troubleshooting and coordination for fire alarm / life-safety system interfaces that touch security technology (e.g., monitoring, relays, integrations), in partnership with the Fire/Life Safety team and approved vendors.
• Document findings, actions taken, and validation steps in the agreed tracker or ticketing system.
Qualifications
Required Skills and Experience:
• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• 5+ years of experience supporting physical security system installation and service in a commercial or enterprise environment.
• Strong troubleshooting skills with ability to isolate hardware, software, and connectivity issues.
• Familiarity with network fundamentals including IP addressing, connectivity, and basic network structure.
• Ability to safely operate lifts and work at heights.
Required Certifications / Programming Experience:
• Certified on Lenel Access Control.
• Certified on Genetec Video Management and Genetec Access Control.
• Certified on Bosch Intrusion Systems.
• Demonstrated programming proficiency and ability to troubleshoot and implement solutions within these platforms.
Technical Knowledge:
• Advanced knowledge of physical security terminology and operations.
• Familiarity with video camera systems.
• Experience with intercoms and emergency phone systems.
Preferred Certifications & Skills:
• Technical trade certification or vocational training preferred.
• Working knowledge of common security platforms including access control, video management, visitor management, parking systems, key management, and intercom systems.
• Ability to interpret as-built drawings and other technical documentation.
• Familiarity with fire/life-safety system interfaces and coordination with fire alarm vendors/contractors.
• Knowledge of emerging technologies and trends in physical security systems.
Fiscal Responsibility:
• May order parts and materials within Manager-approved spending limits.
• Does not hold project-level or enterprise budget authority.
Supervisory Responsibility:
• No direct reports.
• May coordinate vendors, contractors, and trades during installations or service activities under Manager oversight.
