Exec Dir PMO, DPG
The Sony Pictures Television Network (SPTN) Digital Product Group (DPG) team has recently embarked upon a new phase expanding our own Sony developed technology/IP to be the SPTN's sole direct to consumer experience. This mission is driven by our customer-first ethos where forming a deep sense of connection with our audiences is foundational to hypothesis-driven product development. As part of this, we support Sony Crackle - an ad and subscription based streaming video network that offers consumers access to full-length Hollywood movies, TV shows, and original films and series in 3 languages and 21 countries. We also support 90 websites, 26 platforms across 10 languages. SPTN is one of the world's largest TV network operators hitting ~2.0 billion homes globally! We are seeking an Exec Dir PMO to build and operate our Program Management Office, and to manage our rapidly growing Project Management team. The incumdbent provides project management leadership, structure and vision for the overall portfolio of the DPG team.
Responsibilities
• Leadership - Accountable for leading the team of Program and Project Managers who are accountable for the delivery and maintenance of all complex, technical programs and projects in the DPG portfolio
• Delivery – Accountable for the timely and effective delivery of ongoing projects and programs within the DPG portfolio, ensuring adherence to agreed timelines, scope and budget and effective adaptation to and communication of mid-course changes to efforts whilst in flight
• Portfolio Management Lead – Manage alignment of dependencies, timing, and priorities across multiple programs and Scrum teams in support of overall DPG portfolio
• Portfolio Release Management – Lead PMO team in managing and communicating release plans/timing for DPG portfolio
• Portfolio Risk Management – Proactively identify and resolve issues, manage risks as well as develop mitigation and contingency plans at a portfolio level
• Planning – Partner with Product Leadership to drive portfolio roadmap definition and planning
• Team Management – Hire, train, support, and supervise all Program Managers and Project Managers in PMO
• Process – Define and enforce cross-functional processes with input from other DPG functional leaders, roll out, evangelize and coach Program Managers and Project Managers
• Stakeholder Management – Represents DPG to various stakeholders throughout the SPTN business, ensures project/program-level alignment with overall business KPIs and priorities.
• Resource Management - Accountable for PMO team resource planning and allocation
• Financial – Accountable for managing and reporting on PMO team budget as well the roll-up of Program-level and Project-level budgets
• Communication – Drive alignment with various internal stakeholders including technical, product, design, UX, QA, marketing, business management and executive team to communicate on portfolio status
• New Initiative Estimation – Directly lead or oversee Program Managers in the new initiative intake process and deliver timely estimations of necessary resources and cost to help determine timing, feasibility, and priority
• Program Initiation – Directly lead or oversee Program Managers in managing cross-functional teams in defining scope, schedule, budget, and risks for new programs
• Thought Leadership – Provide thought leadership as the head of the PMO group to support the overall strategic growth and efficiency of the DPG department
Qualifications
• 15 years of proven leadership at a PMO Lead/Program Director role, preferably in a fast-paced technical consulting or software development environment
• 20 years of work experience at a Senior Project Manager role, preferably in a fast-paced technical consulting or software development environment
• Strong track record of building PMO and cross-functional teams from the ground up, sourcing highly-qualified talent, and bringing out the best in team members
• Able to drive alignment
• Proactively manage and communicate program and project risks
• Agile Project Management Coach
• Expert understanding of project management including Agile (Scrum, KanBan, SAFe), Waterfall, and Agile Hybrid methodologies.
• Solid understanding of SDLC best practices
• Solid understanding of QA best practices (functional and automated)
• Solid understanding of release management
• Ability to manage a PMO team responsible for managing multiple concurrent complex programs and projects
• Excellent organizational, written and communications skills
• Proven team-building skills
• Experience in strategic program-level planning and execution
• Education: BA/BS required.
• Training: Project management certifications are a plus. (CSM, CSPO, ACP, PMP, SAFe, etc.)
