The Safety Manager is responsible for leading the planning, implementation, oversight, and continuous improvement of safety programs across Spurs Sports & Entertainment facilities. This role ensures compliance with applicable federal, state, and local safety, health, environmental, fire, and accessibility regulations.
The Safety Manager oversees operational safety programs, life safety systems, fire protection and monitoring systems, pest management, contractor compliance, and safety training initiatives. This role includes program administration, inspection oversight, audit execution, and contract management
The ideal candidate is a collaborative and influential leader who can partner effectively across departments and with external contractors to develop policies, enforce compliance, and foster a culture of safety. This role requires independent judgment to prioritize a diverse workload in a fast-paced, public assembly environment.
What You'll Do:
• Develop, implement, and facilitate safety training programs focused on workplace safety, injury prevention, and environmental awareness for Venue Operations and related staff. Verify ongoing compliance with OSHA, NFPA, ADA, EPA, and other applicable regulations.
• Build, maintain, and continuously update operational safety programs including Lockout/Tagout, Aerial Lift (MEWP) operations, Forklift operations, Fall Protection, PPE, First Aid, Contractor Safety, and related programs.
• Oversee and verify maintenance of all life safety systems, coordinate required inspections, and conduct job site safety compliance inspections, including hazard analysis, safe work procedures, and written reporting with corrective action recommendations.
• Serve as liaison with Construction teams, third-party contractors, Fire Marshals, Fire Departments, and regulatory agencies to ensure building safety procedures are followed and required permits are secured.
• Perform routine safety audits during events and event-related activities; evaluate safety protocols and collaborate with Venue Operations Leadership to recommend improvements.
• Oversee fire protection and fire monitoring systems, including panel management, alarm response coordination, and vendor oversight.
• Manage pest control contracts to ensure compliance with local and state health regulations and maintain a safe facility environment.
• Oversee external vendor safety inspections, contract compliance, documentation, and related administrative responsibilities.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
Who You Are:
• Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university, or a minimum of three (3) years of related experience in a safety, compliance, or facility operations role (public assembly or arena experience preferred).
• OSHA 30 certification required.
• Certified OSHA Trainer in Aerial Lift (MEWP), Pallet Jack, and Forklift operations preferred, or ability to obtain certification within six (6) months of employment.
• Experience working within public assembly venues, arenas, or large-scale facilities preferred.
• Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as required by event schedules.
Physical Requirements:
• Stand, sit, or walk for extended periods.
• Navigate arena facilities including stairs, catwalks, mechanical rooms, and other restricted-access areas.
• Lift and carry materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
