TakePart, the digital division of Participant Media, is seeking a Systems Administrator to help support our Drupal and Ruby on Rails platforms for its office in LA. This is an exciting role at a rapidly growing media company whose mission is to create entertainment that inspires and compels social change.
Participant Media is a global entertainment company founded in 2004 by Jeff Skoll to focus on feature film, television, publishing and digital content that inspires social change. Participant's more than 45 films include GOOD NIGHT, AND GOOD LUCK, SYRIANA, AN INCONVENIENT TRUTH, FOOD, INC., WAITING FOR 'SUPERMAN', THE HELP, CONTAGION and LINCOLN. Through its films, social action campaigns, digital network TakePart.com and Pivot, its new television network for Millennials, Participant seeks to entertain, encourage and empower every individual to take action.
Responsibilities:
Candidate will be supporting an in-house software development team on developing features and functionality in support of a daily publishing site and transactional platform with 10MM monthly visits.
• Administer EC2 virtual machines running LAMP and Ruby on Rails with RVM and Nginx
• Configure and maintain environments hosted in AWS, including EC2 with auto-scaling, security groups, ELB, ElastiCache, RDS, and S3
• Manage deployment scripting and tools (Jenkins, shell scripts, Passenger, Resque)
• Site Monitoring processes, handling alerts, application logging, escalations, and familiarity with tools such as Icinga and New Relic
• Manage MySQL databases hosted on Amazon RDS
• Traditional build and release duties
• Day to day system administration: troubleshooting, performance tuning, and scaling operations
• Improve development operations processes
• DNS management
Qualifications:
• B.S. in Computer Science or equivalent work experience
• 3+ years supporting and building Linux-based web applications
• Experience developing large-scale, high-availability client/server web applications
• Experience setting up, configuring, and troubleshooting caching tools (Memcached, Varnish, APC, Akamai)
• Hands on experience with web applications hosted with Amazon Web Services (EC2 with auto-scaling, security groups, ELB, RDS, S3)
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Bonus points:
o Familiarity with multi-site Drupal instances
