A quick summary about the Role:
The Orlando Magic part-time Event AV Tech assists in delivering high-level audio-visual support for events held at the Kia Center, AdventHealth Training Facility, and other Orlando Magic facilities with a focus on courtside/game production.
This position is responsible for executing AV set/operations for a wide range of event types, including Orlando Magic games, Solar Bears hockey, Osceola Magic games (at Osceola Heritage Park), Orlando Pirates arena football, concerts, and other corporate hospitality events.
Event AV Tech ensures that all department protocols, standards, and procedures are consistently followed.
Event AV Tech role is critical in supporting team success, maintaining operational excellence, and ensuring every event is executed with the highest level of technical quality and professionalism.
What the position will be responsible for:
• Adhere strictly to established BTS protocols and standard operating procedures to ensure successful execution of event technical support of live sporting events and hospitality environments, including NBA (Orlando Magic), G-League (Osceola Magic), and ECHL (Orlando Solar Bears) seasons.
• Perform setup, operation and teardown of event technical systems, including NBA game technology and related league mandated workflows such as Swiss Timing (Tissot Scoring), Precision Time systems, Daktronics (All Sport controller), in-arena broadcast equipment, Clear-Com and Riedel communications systems, VITEC EZ TV IPTV systems, and ANC LED display systems.
• Serve as a technical resource and work collaboratively with full-time Broadcast Technical Services (BTS) staff, including the Event AV Lead Specialist, SFT Event AV Technician, Engineer-in-Charge (EIC), A1, and additional part-time Audio-Visual Event Technicians to support live games and events.
• Provide technical support and coordination with other BTS personnel across multiple Orlando Magic venues and off-site event locations.
• Work with other part-time Event AV staff, ensuring compliance with BTS standards, procedures, and best practices, while always maintaining safe and organized work environments.
• Execute event production responsibilities across audio, video, and lighting systems for both NBA and ECHL events.
• Diagnosing and resolving technical issues in real time across a variety of AV systems and event setups.
• Setup/Operate small- to large-format audio consoles (4–48 channels) and associated outboard equipment. Experience with Yamaha QL and DM3 series consoles is a plus.
• Setup/Operate Shure wireless and wired microphone systems.
• Operate Crestron/QSC Q-SYS Arena networked AV control systems.
• Support Orlando Venues/Orlando Magic corporate conferences/VIP hospitality events by executing both small and large-scale AV setups throughout Kia Center arena and other Orlando Magic off-site event locations. (AdventHealth Training Center, Magic Carpet Aviation, and CNL offices)
• Provide ongoing technical support with other stakeholders including Special Events, Live Entertainment, Corporate Partnerships, Basketball Operations, to deliver AV solutions that meet event objectives and expectations during both event and non-event days.
• Support media personnel and NBA/ECHL officials with audiovisual needs during game events.
• Maintain clean, organized, and safe work environments in accordance with safety standards.
• Utilize both PC and Mac platforms in conjunction with video projection and presentation systems.
• Set up and operate spotlight systems with a foundational understanding of theatrical and event lighting.
• Assemble, configure, and operate portable audio systems.
• Perform installation, testing, and termination of audiovisual/data cabling, ensuring all infrastructure is organized, labeled, and up to professional standards.
• Build and configure equipment racks, ensuring proper cable management and clean installation.
• Safely work at heights exceeding 100 feet when required.
• Report equipment malfunctions promptly and accurately.
• Exercise sound judgment and decision-making within established operational guidelines.
• Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.
What is required for the role:
• Bachelor's degree preferred or equivalent professional experience required.
• Minimum of 2 years of professional audio/video technical experience in live events, broadcast, or venue environments.
• Minimum of 2 years of professional LIVE AUDIO is strongly preferred.
• Strong customer-service orientation with the ability to support internal and external clients professionally.
• Advanced knowledge of audio/video principles, live event setups and sound reinforcement techniques.
• Working knowledge of analog and digital audio standards, along with general equipment maintenance best practices (strongly preferred).
• Previous experience in arena or large-venue environments is strongly preferred.
• Ability to operate audio consoles (4–48 channels); experience with Yamaha QL and DM3 series consoles is a plus.
• Proficient in video signal connectivity, including fiber-optic, SDI, and HDMI termination.
• Experience with IMAG production, truck dock production interconnectivity, IP-based video distribution, and RIEDEL/CLEAR-COM intercom systems.
• Strong organizational skills, time management skills and attention to detail required.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills with an emphasis on business writing skills.
• Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks/projects.
• Ability to work independently without supervision, be self-directed and demonstrate initiative.
• Strong team synergy skills and ability to work collaboratively with others whom you have no direct authority over.
• Excellent ability to establish rapport with others and ability to build strong interpersonal relationships.

• Willingness to work a flexible schedule including nights and weekends and be on-call as necessary based on the changing priorities of the department.
