As the UCAN Payroll Manager, you will be a key member of a high-performing global payroll team. You will be based in Los Angeles/Los Gatos with eight direct reports, working cross-functionally across many time zones, with LATAM, EMEA and APAC regions. The right candidate for this position will be an individual who has a natural intellectual curiosity, strong analytical skills, flexibility and the desire to drive process improvements.
Responsibilities:
• Promote the development, lead and mentor the UCAN payroll team
• Manage relationships with external payroll providers
• Ensure an accurate and timely payroll, including but not limited to: base pay, stock compensation, payroll taxes, pension, statutory and supplemental benefits, etc
• Own month-end close, quarter-end and year-end processes for Americas entities including reviewing/approving journal entries, account reconciliations and accruals
• Cross-functional collaboration with business partners for process improvements and efficiencies
• Assist with driving global payroll strategy to align on refining current payroll operations with internal payroll teams (LATAM, EMEA, APAC) to streamline processes to ensure consistency, accuracy, and best-in-class services
• Responsible for ensuring all payroll regulatory filings are completed in line with statutory due dates
• Lead payroll development and implementation process for new countries or entities, as needed
• Partner closely with our internal partners (HR / Employee Services / Finance) to provide our employees with a first-class onboarding and payroll experience
• Proactively prepare relevant management reports and statistics as needed
• Stay current on regulations, benefits changes, and labor laws impacting the payroll process, and stay compliant for all payroll tax jurisdiction
• Assisting in ad-hoc duties when required
We are looking for someone who:
• Has strong knowledge of payroll across US and Canada
• Has expertise in managing the end-to-end UCAN payroll process and has a high level of understanding of general business operations and internal control concepts
• Has the ability to assess and provide input into the impact of a business process change
• Is a great communicator that can build strong working relationships with external advisors and internal teams
• Has strong leadership skills, is a team player, and is able to resolve conflicts
• Can work on own initiative and as part of a team
• Is a multitasker who can prioritize to meet multiple tight deadlines
• Can be flexible and willing to work across multiple time zones, sometimes outside of the conventional workday
• Proactively takes initiative and makes decisions confidently

• Can manage ambiguity, risk, and changing the direction of projects and strategies
• Experience with complex cross-functional payroll projects
Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in Finance / Tax / Accounting / HR (or similar field)
• Knowledge & understanding of equity and mobility programs
• Intermediate/Advanced with Excel and other Microsoft/Google products
• Workday end to end payroll processing knowledge is a MUST
• Strong communication skills, written/verbal, and the ability to interact with employees at all levels
