Role Purpose: NBCUniversal is looking for a detail-oriented, highly organized, and highly efficient individual to work within the legal department of Universal Television Entertainment, as part of a team focused on development- and production-related agreements and adjacent issues. Reporting to the Director, Production Contracts, this role will draft and negotiate certain above-the-line talent agreements (with attorney supervision) and handle related issues in connection with world-class broadcast, streaming and cable television programs.
Responsibilities:
• Under attorney supervision, draft and negotiate certain kinds of above-the-line talent agreements in connection with the development and production of television programs. These may include certificates of authorship/engagement/results & proceeds and upset price agreements, as well as other above-the-line talent agreements (depending on experience level).
• Provide timely and thoughtful advice to studio executives and production personnel regarding the status of contract negotiations, as well as other deal-related issues.
• Process and upload contracts and correspondence into departmental files and databases, and handle related administrative responsibilities.
• Participate in task forces to evaluate and establish new procedures to streamline workflow and enhance department productivity.
• Assist team in creating and updating contract forms, as well as internal training and resource materials.
• Must maintain confidentiality of projects, legal and business information at all times.
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications
• 2 years of experience in a professional role requiring strong analytic and organizational skills and careful attention to detail, ideally in a legal, business affairs or finance setting, and ideally in a larger corporate environment or entertainment business.
Desired Characteristics
• Bachelor's Degree.
• Exceptional organizational, problem-solving and oral and written communication skills.
• Sound business judgment and flexibility/adaptability to manage multiple time-sensitive matters, including appropriately prioritizing among them.
• Ability to work under pressure at times, including through negotiations with talent representatives and in maintaining collaborative relationships with studio executives and other personnel at all levels.
• Ability to own tasks and initiatives and work independently as appropriate.
• Ability to maintain a positive attitude and flexibility in a fast-paced corporate business environment.
• Demonstrated ability to process and analyze complex information.
• Demonstrated facility with Word and Adobe Acrobat; proficiency Excel and PowerPoint.
• Willingness to, once in a while, work late and on weekends on short notice if necessary.
• Experience drafting talent agreements and/or handling development- or production-related legal issues.
• Paralegal or comparable experience.
• Basic understanding of legal and business terms relevant to the entertainment industry.
Hybrid: This position currently has a hybrid schedule, which requires contributing from the Universal City, CA office a minimum of four days per week. The Company reserves the right to change in-office requirements at any time.
Salary/Benefits
