This person will be reporting to the Vice President, Digital Visual & Immersive Experiences, the Director of Photography is responsible for the strategy and implementation of photographic storytelling experiences across National Geographic's digital platforms. Managing a team of approximately 8 photo editors, the Director of Photography will partner across the four Content Verticals to position National Geographic's as the visual leader in the digital space. This role is also responsible for overseeing the Instagram Account Manager. In addition, this role will partner across NGP and NGS (including with NGM, NGC, and NGS's editorial council) to mine story ideas, leverage existing commissions, and drive storytelling, initiative, and talent alignment. The role will also collaborate with commercial teams to ensure the visual experiences are driving advertising and membership revenue growth goals. This role is crucial to driving the audience and revenue growth of NGP's digital business and to bringing to life the contemporary visual experience of the National Geographic brand.
Responsibilities
• Lead and manage team creating National Geographic's digital photography. Drive creative strategy, output, and team culture for the group, working in close partnership with the Digital Content Vertical Leads and Digital Product.
• Partner across NGP and NGS to source and align story and creative concepts and support/enhance text-based experiences.
• Manage production budgets and partner with commercial executives to ensure strategy driving planned revenue outcomes.
• Extend visual storytelling across O&O and other distribution experiences.
• Manage team members and provide career development opportunities.
Qualifications:
• Bachelors degree is preferred.
• At least 7-10 years of experience as a photo editor at an editorial outlet, print or digital.
• At least 3 years of experience managing a team.
• Digital experience a plus.
