Full Time Job
The MTV, VH1, and Logo Social Impact team is charged with using the networks’ superpowers for good. The team develops and manages multi-platform social change initiatives that empower the channels’ audiences to have an impact on the biggest challenges facing the nation.
The MTV, VH1, and Logo Social Impact team primarily hold three key roles:
• developing proactive, ambitious creative campaigns on social issues
• supporting on-air and digital show teams through advising on
• pro-social messaging
• responding in real-time to news events that affect our audience
The Social Impact team works with all departments – such as marketing, social, digital, development, news – with a special focus on MTV. MTV’s current anchor campaign is “Look Different,” which is helping America’s youth to better recognize and challenge racial, gender and anti-LGBT biases, but our network also recently launched 1 the Vote (MTV’s first-ever midterm election campaign) and has made bold statements on social issues from #MeToo to gun violence prevention to Dreamers.
We’re a small team, and our Social Impact Manager has the opportunity to have an outsized impact.
Responsibilities
• Create and execute proactive social impact campaigns for MTV, VH1, and Logo and engage our respective audiences
• Develop and generate creative campaign and activation ideas aligned to the our social impact strategy – this might include and is not limited to creative rapid response ideas, identifying ways
to leverage tentpole events to make an impact, and/or developing creative campaign ideas
• Project manage the implementation of the team’s activations – working closely with internal
stakeholders (such as social, digital, creative, and marketing) as well as external partners
• Work with producers, directors, and talent to execute content – from organizing and attending
formal shoots to capturing social content on a red carpet or in a greenroom
• Provide feedback to production and show teams to align MTV, VH1, and Logo shows or films
with best practices and/or pro-social messaging
• Develop and pitch creative, pro-social show integrations
• Support the Social Impact Director and VP in developing the overarching social impact strategy for the MTV, VH1, and Logo brands
• Extend reach of brands in important communities by securing and growing relationships with social talent, non-profits, advocacy groups, and other key stakeholders
• Willing to lead research projects and spearhead the development of pitch decks or creative
Basic Qualifications
• Bachelor's Degree with 5-8 years of relevant experience, with a preference for those who have worked in the social impact field
• Experience working in social impact at a creative agency,
forward-thinking nonprofit, or media/technology company also a plus
Additional Qualifications
• Deep passion for social justice and effecting social change, with the ability to think like a smart and strategic marketer
• Ability to rapidly shift between multiple projects and priorities – keeping a clear focus on what really matters
• Comfortable on shoots, red carpets, and working with talent
• Experience in communications and PR for social impact initiatives a plus
• Exemplary written and oral communications skills with strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills
• Digital, social media, and editorial savvy and plugged into pop culture, digital youth culture, and prosocial trends
• Passion for film and TV
• The Manager must be available to help us respond to breaking news, which could occur outside standard working hours. They must be reliable and willing to pitch in at a moment’s notice on a
broad range of tasks, and have the ability to quickly pick up new skills
