Filmmaker Strategy Lead
Joint Venture
Los Angeles, CAThis is a Full Time Job
The Filmmaker Strategy Lead will work directly with our filmmaker teams – directors, talent, producers and key creatives – and will be responsible for crafting and executing publicity and marketing strategies specific to the filmmakers and their film.
This role requires you to think beyond conventional publicity and marketing playbooks. You'll need to understand both the target audiences and the filmmakers' personal and professional brands, then create bespoke strategies that authentically connect filmmakers with their audiences, converting them to fans.
We're looking for someone who is excited to reimagine how filmmakers and their films are presented in today’s cultural landscape. If you believe that the connection between filmmaker and audience is just as important as the film itself, and you're excited to pioneer new approaches to talent-driven publicity and film marketing, this role is for you.
You'll report directly to the CEO and work closely with the Chief Creative Officer, playing a pivotal role in how Joint Venture elevates filmmakers and their work.
Key Responsibilities
Strategy
• Define the strategy for each filmmaker and key creatives: who they are in the cultural landscape, what they stand for, and why audiences should follow them.
• Run structured discovery with filmmakers – interviews, workshops, creative exercises, research – to surface their points of view, values, interest, and brand
• Analyze the filmmakers’ existing audience alongside the film’s target audience
• Shape the beats of the campaign – IRL and online events, social content, exclusive content, AMAs, and beyond – that serve the film and create fans out of moviegoers
• Translate this into clear brand platforms, messaging frameworks for talent and for the film, and guardrails that guide all talent-facing activity
Campaigns
• Design and execute marketing strategies for direct-to-audience channels, social platforms, recurring content formats, appearances, and collaborations
• Create and publish content
• Pitch publicity opportunities to national, regional, and local press
Cross-team collaboration
• Collaborate with all team members to develop film-specific strategies and blueprints, assess their performance, and adjust approaches in real time to maximize reach and revenue
• Collaborate with CEO and Business Operations to create internal reports and post-mortems on each release, and across the company generally
• Participate in acquisitions screenings and provide analytical insights on target projects
Qualifications
• 5+ years of experience in publicity, marketing, or talent representation with proven ability to develop and execute successful talent-centric campaigns
• Highly organized with strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
• Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment
