I. SUMMARY
The Manager of Communications for the Barclays Center and the Business, Entertainment, and Community divisions of NETS Basketball. The Manager will report to the Senior Vice President of Communications, serve as a liaison between the arena/team and the media, as well as maintain a close connection with the NETS basketball PR group. The individual must be a well-rounded communications professional, which includes a music PR background, with strong media acumen and interpersonal skills.
The Manager will be responsible for pitching and placing stories, drafting press releases, executing, and developing communications and marketing strategies. This will include a focus on the Barclays Center, including its music programming, and the NETS brands, as we stimulate and develop media coverage, and increase the visibility in the corporate world and globally.

II. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Pitch and place stories related to the Barclays Center and the NETS, including the arena's opening, business, marketing, programming, merchandising, global, special events, and entertainment initiatives, etc
- Responsible for press release writing.
- Execute and develop strategies and fulfilling tactics.
- Administration of senior management bios for media guides.
- Track editorial calendars of select publications, including advising SVP of Communications of important upcoming special issues.
- Assist in maintaining the department's storylines and media outreach tracking documents.
- Work with the music media scene, including bloggers.
III. QUALIFICATIONS
The qualifications listed below represent the credentials necessary to perform the essential functions of this position. A. Education and/or Experience
- Bachelor of Arts degree preferred;
- 4-6 years experience working within similar role;
- Previous experience at a Public Relations firm preferred;
- Previous PR experience with music groups, band & album promotion, etc. preferred
B. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
- Strong writing skills and ability to communicate efficiently.
- Generate story ideas and the ability to make them interesting to media.
- Experience pitching stories of all types to a wide selection of media outlets, including blogs, and working with reporters/editors/producers.
- Extensive media contacts.
- Communication skills, both internally and externally.
- Ability to work effectively with a wide range of stakeholders, including the media and sponsors, with diplomacy, flexibility and focus.
- Proactive approach.
- History of successful placements.
- Knowledge of the New York and national media , and the ability to generate coverage
- Team player attitude.
- Ability to handle numerous tasks simultaneously
- Ability to handle high pressure situations with poise and confidence
- Close attention to detail.
- Determine metrics to measure success for the Communications team.
C. Certifications
None Required.
A. Travel Requirements:
Infrequent Traveler (15 - 20% travel): The incumbent may be required to travel within the New York City area. The incumbent primarily works in an office environment, however may be expected to attend NETS games and other events taking place on weekends and holidays.
Trips may require air travel and/or overnight stay away from home for one or more nights.
B. Physical Demands:
This position requires the ability to lift up to 10 pounds.
