The Director of Production plays a central role in leading the day-to-day production operations across JCE's full slate - scripted, unscripted, specials, and live sports content.
Reporting directly to the EVP, Head of Production, this leader ensures that all projects are delivered on schedule, on budget, and to the company's creative and technical standards of excellence. The role also serves as a strategic bridge between Production Finance and Production Management, helping streamline communication, cost tracking, and reporting across departments.
This position requires a seasoned production leader who can balance creative vision with operational precision - someone who thrives in a fast-paced, multi-genre environment and understands the unique demands of live and remote productions.
Key Responsibilities
• Oversee physical production for scripted, unscripted, specials, and live sports projects from development through delivery.
• Supervise and mentor production teams including Line Producers, Production Managers, and Coordinators, fostering an inclusive and high-performing culture.
• Partner closely with Production Finance to review budgets, track cost reports, and manage financial communication with the EVP, Head of Production.
• Serve as the liaison between Production Finance and Production, ensuring clear, consistent, and timely information flow on budgets, forecasts, and reconciliations.
• Manage production scheduling, staffing, and logistics to support multiple concurrent projects across divisions including commissioned projects and JCE's internal development slate.
• Assist with vendor negotiations and contracts to optimize costs and maintain quality standards when required.
• Ensure compliance with union and guild agreements (DGA, SAG-AFTRA, IATSE), labor laws, insurance, and company safety policies.
• Collaborate with creative and executive teams to balance creative ambitions with operational realities.
• Support JCE's post-production division with oversight of equipment, show scheduling, post workflows, and problem solving ensuring efficient handoffs and timely delivery.
• Identify and implement operational improvements and emerging technologies across both production and post that increases efficiency and cost control across all projects.
• Represent the Production Department in network, studio, and partner meetings as needed.
Qualifications
• 10+ years of production experience in television with at least 3-5 years in a senior production management role preferred. Experience in film, live, experiential, social media are all a plus.
• Proven track record managing budgets, cost reporting, and logistics across multiple genres, including live events and sports broadcasts.
• Strong collaboration with production finance and experience managing production budgets.
• Extensive knowledge of union/guild rules, compliance, and California labor standards.
• Strong negotiation skills and existing vendor/crew relationships in the Los Angeles market and key production hubs.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment and lead with calm, solution-oriented focus.
• Bachelor's degree in Business, Film, Television, Communications, or equivalent professional experience preferred.
