Video Content Producer, Austin American-Statesman
Join the American-Statesman as a video content producer to help grow our off-platform audience in the nation's 11th largest city.
The Austin American-Statesman is looking for an experienced video content producer to join our regional video team, enhancing our mission to inform, engage and connect with our readers.
As a video content producer, you'll be responsible for shooting and editing video for social media, stories and projects. This could include splicing together a breaking news reel, shooting a story in the field or producing a podcast or live event in our studio.
• Produce videos for core social media platforms. This includes directing, recording and editing both in-studio and on-scene footage.
• Growing our social media presence through steady production of video content (5-7 pieces of content/week)
• Identify user-generated content that enhances our storytelling and engages our social media audience. Work with reporters to obtain permission from users to modify and publish their content.
• Confer with our Audience Growth Editor to generate ideas for visual storytelling that will engage our social media audience
• Work closely with audience team to determine any audio/video elements that could enhance stories
• Collaborate with editors and reporters to identify opportunities for video or audio elements to accompany long-form stories
• Support senior multimedia producer in producing podcasts as needed and in various aspects of video production
• Maintain high audio and visual standards and ensure content follows digital copyright laws
• Maintain high journalistic standards, ensuring videos are accurate, fair and reported without bias
• Execute miscellaneous YouTube and TikTok channel management responsibilities, such as ensuring brand pages are regularly updated with new content, header art, playlists and pins
• Visual storyteller who is social media savvy and keeps up with the latest trends
• Experienced with both in-studio and field videography
• Proficiency in Canva and Adobe products: Photoshop, Premiere, Audition
• Creative and able to tell compelling stories on tight deadlines
• Able to learn new technology independently and quickly
• Organized problem-solver who can pivot when necessary
• Team player with excellent interpersonal skills
• Open to occasional schedule changes (nights, weekends)
• Working knowledge of social video and digital content analytics
• Bachelor's degree in journalism or related field
• 3 years of professional experience in a similar role
• Experience with data analytics
