About the Role
The Travel Commerce Editor will help craft our travel commerce strategy and be responsible for its execution. This will include assigning and writing punchy, compelling articles about trips, products, travel guides and reviews, and developing relationships with merchants and retailers in the travel space. The role will focus on working with the following: SFGATE, Chron, MySA, Times-Union and a dozen sites in Connecticut.
This role is being offered 100% remotely and we can employ in the following states: AZ, CA, CO, CT, DC, FL, KY, KY, MD, ME, MI, MO, NC, NH, NJ, NV, NY, SC, OH, TX, WA AND WI.
Deep knowledge of travel trends and reader service is a must, as well as the ability to communicate and work effectively with the commerce team and news editorial staff. The candidate needn't be an expert in every place or category, but should be passionate about some and willing to research and learn about others. Strong preference will be given to experience covering San Francisco Bay Area and/or Texas.
Things You Should Have:
• 5-7 years of editorial experience with some experience in commerce
• Killer writing skills and a clear, conversational tone
• A strong interest in reader satisfaction
• Ability to use data to make informed content decisions
• Deep travel, home and lifestyle product knowledge
• Knowledge of San Francisco, Houston or San Antonio a big plus
• Willingness to contribute on weekends and/or evenings (as necessary)
What You'll Do:
• Conceptualize, write, assign and edit commerce content, including SEO-driven guides, timely deals and product recommendations
• Use listening tools, data, historical knowledge and affiliate opportunities to make strategic content decisions
• Write, edit, create images and produce articles in the CMS
• Gauge and improve performance using data from Amazon Associates, Skimlinks, traffic reports, etc.
