Compensation: $24-26/hr DOE Overtime after 40 hrs
Gulfshore Playhouse is seeking an experienced Alterations Lead to oversee
the alteration, repair, and finishing for our production of Christmas Carol.
This is a hands-on production position. The successful candidate will spend the majority
of their day sewing while simultaneously directing workflow, mentoring staff, and
ensuring projects are completed on schedule.
The ideal individual will have a strong drive to provide high-quality work, the ability to exercise
good judgment in a variety of situations, with strong written and verbal communication,
organizational skills, and ability to work as a part of the team. Gulfshore Playhouse values hard
work, kindness, generosity, passion, and grace-under-pressure. Employee will be expected to
work extended hours on occasion when necessary to meet goals. Some weekend and evening
hours are required including attendance at performances, special events, and/or meetings that
may happen outside normal hours.
Skills:
• Advanced garment fitting and alterations skills
• Hand sewing and finishing techniques
• Garment Construction and repair
• Draping and pattern adjustments
• Use of industrial sewing machines and 4 and 5 thread sergers
• Creative problem-solving
• Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing
• Ability to manage time and productivity effectively
• Ability to multitask and achieve tight deadlines
Duties:
• Perform advanced theatrical costume alterations and repairs
• Manage the day-to-day workflow of the alterations
• Maintain Gulfshore Playhouse quality standards
• Train, mentor, and support sewing staff
• Maintain an organized, safe, and efficient work environment
• Perform physical tasks including bending, kneeling, reaching, lifting, climbing, pushing, and
pulling
• Perform additional duties as assigned
Qualifications:
• 3-5 years experience in the field
• Advanced garment fitting and alterations skills
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds of equipment
• Ability to work in tight, enclosed spaces including ones in the air
• Ability to work in dark spaces
• Ability to stand for long periods of time depending on assignment
• Ability to safely operate shop equipment and tools
