Job Title: Virtual Production Systems Technician
Key Responsibilities
• Work with the Stage Operations team to verify all systems are operational daily and calibrated at regular intervals.
• (e.g., LED wall calibration and seam correction checks, color space confirmations, confirming genlock synchronization across all devices, testing failover scenarios)
• Provide real-time troubleshooting during shoots and rehearsals.
• Monitor and resolve any A/V signal issues to quickly and effectively diagnose, address, and fix hardware that needs attention.
• Collaborate with the Stage Operations team to monitor video system health and sync status throughout the day, and proactively address warnings.
• Collaborate onsite daily with the Stage Team, Virtual Production Supervisor(s), and Stage Operators.
• Work with Netflix N-Tech, Networking, Hardware, and Infrastructure teams on real-time issues as well as planned reviews of network metrics and conditions, and participate in infrastructure expansions or adjustments.
• Interface with the 'brain bar' or volume operators (the team driving real-time content) and cinematographers.
• Ensure the production, creative, and research teams can focus on filmmaking by maintaining smooth technology operations.
• Execute end-of-day backups of LED Processor configurations.
• Effectively log and report incidents for management review.
• Implement individual accommodations for production-specific requests.
• Communicate changes and updates, and present best practices to local stage operators.
• Apply and test new firmware updates and new software in a planned manner with Systems TD.
• Define and communicate plans of action under system failure conditions, ensuring spare hardware is configured and ready for direct replacement, and clearly communicate expected timelines.
• Maintain, clean, and organize an orderly workspace and the hardware in use.
• Determine, document, and communicate necessary equipment as production and diagnostic needs evolve.
• Conduct thorough audits of systems under Systems TD guidance (network architecture, LED panel health, etc.).
• Update documentation and facilitate knowledge transfer on a monthly basis to ensure continuity with Systems TD.
• Collaborate with Systems TD on scheduled facility-wide upgrades in conjunction with stakeholders.
• Work with Systems TD to ensure the facility meets the latest standards and certifications.
• Review security aspects and ensure proper network segmentation, in accordance with Netflix Security Standards and with support from the wider Netflix Networking teams.
Qualifications
• Fluency in English.
• Remains calm under pressure.
• Prior experience in the setup and configuration of media server systems such as Disguise and Pixera.
• Prior experience in Virtual Production.
• General understanding of real-time effects engines and generative content.
• Familiarity with video formats, transcode pipelines, and asset versioning (NotchLC, ProRes, EXR, Lat/Longs, and Equirectangular content preparations).
• Proficient in digital and analog signal standards including SDI (3G/6G/12G), HDMI, DisplayPort, RJ45, and RS-232/485.
• Proficient in signal connector types and able to re-terminate connections as needed (SDI, D-Sub, XLR, RJ45, etc.).
• Proficient in video signal routing, processing, multiviewers, signal splitters, and distribution amplifiers.
• Experienced with diagnostic tools including waveform/vector scopes, network packet captures, and HDMI/DisplayPort metadata analysis.
• On-site engineering experience, integrating and troubleshooting baseband signal infrastructures in live production environments.
• Experience with the Brompton SX40 LED processing platform.
• Proficient in media and show control protocols: Art-Net, sACN, DMX, DANTE, MIDI, LTC, and NDI.
• Experience with Bitfocus Companion.
• Strong understanding of Layer 1/2 networking and network switch configuration.
• Proficient in networking signal transport over copper and fiber including CAT6a, MTP, OM/OS fiber, SFP( ), and QSFP( ).
• Knowledge of firewall configurations and network security best practices.
• Understanding of single- and three-phase power 110/120V and 208/240V systems.
• Familiarity with region-specific industry-standard power connectors (IE Camlock, Ceeform, Stagepin, NEMA, Shuko, and IEC).
• Skilled at aligning technical execution with client requirements and production workflows.
• Expertise in AV system architecture, signal flow design, and rack layout planning.
• Skilled in producing technical documentation using Lucidchart, Miro, and Google Sheets.
• Proven ability to assist engineering teams through system design, deployment, and live execution.
• Strong interpersonal and technical communication across creative, engineering, and operations teams.
• Skilled in translating complex technical workflows into client-facing documentation.
• Awareness of OSHA, KCC, and venue-specific electrical safety standards for power and infrastructure.
