JOB DESCRIPTION:
dGenerate Films, a new non-theatrical distributor of award-winning, contemporary, independent Chinese cinema, is hiring a Manager/Director of Sales & Operations to be based in its New York City office. This position is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations and administration, as well as DVD and exhibition sales, of a start-up business. This position is extremely rigorous and dynamic; it requires ambition, initiative and superior communication, organizational and management skills. We are seeking an individual who thrives in a small office environment, can work independently and loves to wear many hats. There is tremendous opportunity for growth here. A keen interest in independent film and Chinese cinema is a must. This is a startup environment, so applicants must be entrepreneurial-minded and preferably have experience working within non-traditional business organizations.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
SALES
• Actively pitch the dGF library of titles to exhibition partners, librarians and academics via phone calls, emails, and meetings.
• Manage entire sales process – input tracking details in CRM database, generate invoices in Quickbooks, and follow-through with product fulfillment, ensuring all orders are completed in a timely manner.
• Develop and execute sales and marketing strategies, working closely with the partners.
• Assist in managing company’s accounting and finances, ensuring records are up-to-date.
• Coordinate logistics for public exhibition screenings.
• Maintain and update CRM and film database records.
• Oversee production, design and distribution of advertising and print collateral.
OPERATIONS
• Daily office management – responsible for ordering supplies, answering phones, scheduling pick-ups and deliveries, etc. You’ll be glue that holds the company together.
• Schedule and set agenda for staff meetings and conference calls. Your colleagues may be in the Bay Area, Beijing or Beirut at any given time, so these calls are essential.
• Manage intern hiring, development, training and scheduling.
• Coordinate tape mastering and DVD duplication with filmmakers, vendors and staff.
REQUIREMENTS:
dGF seeks an individual who is passionate about independent and foreign cinema, particularly independent Chinese cinema and has the drive and commitment to grow a small business.
• Bachelor’s degree with 2+ years of experience at a media company in a supervisory role.
• Dynamic, outgoing personality and positive attitude.
• Comfortable working both as a team and independently with minimal supervision.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Exceptional organizational skills; extremely detail-oriented and accurate.
• Highly energetic multi-tasker who thrives in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment.
• Understanding of digital and television video formats, equipment, technology and workflow preferred.
• Knowledge of independent Chinese cinema and directors preferred.
• Graphic design skills or exposure to working on websites/broadcast media a plus.
• Working knowledge of Photoshop, Illustrator, Final Cut Pro, DVD Studio Pro and video compression standards a plus.
