Softitler Canada/Deluxe Digital Studios is a leading provider of quality subtitling, closed captioning and translation services for major motion pictures studios, film festivals, broadcast and cable networks. We currently have an opening for an English to German Language Specialist. This position will be located in Montreal, Quebec.

Main Duties:

- Translates English subtitles into German and proof-reads German translations
- Transcribes German subtitles from audio
- Performs quality control checks on subtitle files
- Responds to translation and procedure-related queries from freelance translators, as well as internal and external clients
- Updates the German language style guidelines and assists in the updating of freelancer procedural manuals
- Works closely with the Training and Feedback department to monitor the German freelance translators with regards to the quality of their work and their adherence to Deluxe Digital Studios procedures and language guidelines. Writes up feedback letters to the freelancers as needed.
- Formats subtitling text scripts into subtitle files in accordance to studio specifications for DVD distribution
- Carries out technical processes on subtitle files in order to prepare them for various delivery formats, including interactive BD, DVD for PAL or NTSC, airline formats, etc.

Under the authority of the Departmental Supervisor:

- You will work closely with the Project Coordination department to ensure German subtitle files meet Deluxe Digital Studios’ quality standards, and will assist them in the formulation of project-specific instructions targeting freelance translators
- You will provide technical support in the creation of subtitles
- You will assess the incoming text material from Hollywood studios (dialogue lists, spotting lists, continuity lists, subtitle files)
- You will communicate with affiliate offices on project status
- You will ensure studio specifications and deadlines are respected
- You will participate in the streamlining of departmental and office-wide procedures
- You will react quickly and effectively to rush requests from internal and external clients
- You will exercise flexibility as the demands on your skills shift to accommodate client requests
- You will assist in the ongoing training and development of freelance translators as new procedures are implemented

Education, Experience and Competencies:

- German mother tongue (*required otherwise your application will not be considered)
- Strong knowledge of the English language. Strong verbal/written communication skills essential
- Technical oriented. This position requires technical exposure
- BA degree in English to German Translation / Literature / Communication / Journalism/ Film
- Knowledge of other languages is considered an asset
- Computer oriented, sound knowledge of MS Office Suite (especially Word, Excel and Outlook)
- Affinity for North American cinema and television
- Flexible and multi-task oriented
- Responds well under pressure of deadlines and multiple questions
- Organized, priority-focused, dynamic, independent, resourceful
- Team player

Testing:

- Successful applicants will be called in to take a translation test

Salary:

- $30,000 to $35,000 per year
