Job Description
CNBC is seeking an experienced Senior Deals Reporter with a track record of delivering important scoops. The reporter will be a key player in CNBC's expanding finance team, working in both TV and digital to produce important stories. CNBC is expanding its finance coverage, building on the strong team we already have in place. The deals reporter would work closely to produce stories that can travel across both TV and digital.
The candidate should have a range of sources on Wall Street and have experience delivering scoops on corporate mergers and acquisitions. The person should be quick and competitive with a creative streak that helps them get around roadblocks and confirm exclusive stories. The position is highly collaborative, with the reporter working across the entire newsroom to deliver scoops and exclusive business stories.
The ability to juggle multiple stories at once is a must for this role. The reporter must have experience handling difficult sources with competing agendas and have a track record of impeccable accuracy.
CNBC is expanding its finance coverage to serve our broad audience of investors, bankers and corporate executives. The reporter will be part of a team of television and digital reporters covering banks, brokers and asset managers, in addition to deals. The group's stories will appear on CNBC.com and on television, and the reporter should be comfortable delivering scoops on television.
Responsibilities
• Break news on deals and generate scoops on big financial transactions.
• Collaborate with reporters across the newsroom on digital and television
• Build deep sources among bankers, lawyers and other deal makers
• Help colleagues turn tips into major scoops
• Generate strong analytical stories about key financial events
• Serve as a resource for the newsroom on deals and Wall Street
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
• 8 years experience covering deals
• Track record of delivering scoops
• Ability to explain complicated financial transactions to a broad audience
• Strong understanding of finance and deals and an ability to prioritize coverage
• Excellent communication, collaboration skills
• High stands of accuracy and fairness
Desired Characteristics
• Background in investing, markets or finance
• Experience appearing on television in a variety of formats
• Deep well of sources in across finance industry
• Experience delivering memorable enterprise stories
