Editorial Researcher, CBS Sports Golazo Network (Freelance)
CBS Sports Golazo Network is seeking an Editorial Researcher to support coverage across its growing portfolio of soccer properties. Based in Stamford, CT, this role will combine research, editorial, and production responsibilities to support live match coverage, studio programming, news gathering, and original content initiatives. The ideal candidate possesses deep soccer knowledge, strong editorial instincts, excellent writing skills, and the ability to identify and develop compelling storylines in a fast-paced environment. Working closely with producers, talent, news editors, and fellow researchers, this person will help shape coverage through research, scriptwriting, editorial planning, and real-time support for live events. The position requires a deep understanding of the global soccer landscape, including women's and men’s competitions, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
Responsibilities:
• Support editorial coverage across all CBS Sports Golazo Network soccer properties, including live matches, studio programming and digital platforms.
• Monitor breaking news, social media, press conferences, and industry reporting to identify emerging storylines, trends, and developments across the global soccer landscape.
• Develop and deliver editorial packets, talent notes, and production materials that feature statistical research, analytical context, storylines, profiles, historical perspectives, and key match information.
• Write scripts, teasers, headlines, talking points, and other editorial content for studio shows, live events, and soccer news programming.
• Collaborate with producers, talent, news editors, and fellow researchers to identify, prioritize, and develop compelling stories for coverage.
• Support live match and studio productions by providing real-time editorial guidance, research, statistical support, and breaking news updates.
• Anticipate and develop storylines before and during live events, identifying trends, notable performances, and key discussion points for on-air coverage.
• Generate creative ideas for graphics, video elements, rankings, explainers, and other editorial content that enhance storytelling and audience engagement.
• Curate and create content for digital and FAST platforms, including countdowns, rankings, feature concepts, and news-driven programming.
• Research and synthesize information from statistical databases, league and team resources, social media platforms, press conferences, and news outlets to support accurate and timely storytelling.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with producers, talent, graphics teams, video teams, and other content creators to ensure editorial alignment across productions.
• Utilize advanced metrics, data, and historical research to develop unique angles and provide deeper context around teams, players, competitions, and storylines.
• Contribute to coverage planning for major soccer events and tentpole properties, including men's and women's competitions at the domestic and international levels.
• Help shape editorial priorities and coverage strategies by exercising strong news judgment and identifying stories that resonate with CBS Sports audiences. Work collaboratively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment while maintaining a high standard of accuracy, creativity, and attention to detail.
Qualifications:
• Excellent knowledge of soccer is highly desired.
• Minimum 1 year of research experience (strong internships considered).
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
• Experience covering or following women's and men’s soccer and international club competitions.
• Proven ability to operate as both a researcher and an editorial contributor, capable of developing storylines, writing content, supporting coverage decisions, and thriving in a fast-paced live production environment
• Experience supporting live sports productions, studio programming, or other broadcast environments with tight deadlines.
• Knowledge of advanced soccer metrics, analytics, and statistical tools.
• Strong writing, editing, and verbal communication skills.
• Demonstrated news judgment and an ability to identify timely, relevant, and impactful storylines.
• Familiarity with social media monitoring, news gathering, and real-time editorial decision-making.
• Passion for storytelling and identifying unique angles that enhance sports coverage.
• Must be able to work nights, weekends and flexible hours.

$24.00 - $28.00 /hour USD
