Overview:
WCBS-TV, the #1 station in the portfolio of Paramount-owned television stations, is seeking a highly skilled, veteran journalist to join our team as Managing Editor.
The successful candidate will be ethical, collaborative and driven by a desire to inform and educate.
Responsibilities include:
• Review and approve scripts to ensure reporting is complete, ethical and well-crafted
• Work with assignment desk, producers and reporters to develop stories that are comprehensive and engaging
• Collaborate with reporters to improve copy and develop story-telling techniques
• Screen reporter stories prior to publication to ensure accuracy and avoid errors
• Work closely with the assignment desk, producers and executive producers to make sure newscasts reflect a wide range of stories of interest and importance to the tri-state area
• Provide mentor to all content creators
• Help drive breaking news coverage on all platforms, thinking wholistically about linear, streaming and digital platforms
• Manage the schedules for anchors and reporters
Basic Qualifications:
• 5 years of experience as a news manager in a large market
Additional Qualifications:
• Deep knowledge of the tri-state area is strongly preferred
• Excellent organizational and communication skills
• Phenomenal writing skills
• Degree in journalism or communications is preferred
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Hiring Salary Range: $110,500.00 - 200,000.00.
The hiring salary range for this position applies to New York City, California, Colorado, Washington state, and most other geographies. Starting pay for the successful applicant depends on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, tuition assistance program and PTO or, if applicable, as otherwise dictated by the appropriate Collective Bargaining Agreement. This position is bonus eligible.
