Who We Are
The Role
We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Finance Director who combines strong financial management expertise, excellent communication skills, and advanced analytical and dashboard development capabilities. This role is responsible for overseeing forecasting, royalty operations, accounts receivable management, financial reporting, business analytics, and managing a team, while driving process improvements and delivering actionable insights to internal and external stakeholders.
The ideal candidate is comfortable interpreting financial data, improving royalty reporting processes, and building visual analytics tools using modern business intelligence platforms. This individual will work cross-functionally with internal teams, clients, and licensees to ensure financial accuracy, operational efficiency, and compliance with contractual obligations.
Responsibilities
Forecasting & Financial Planning
• Manage and oversee the company's monthly, quarterly, and annual revenue forecasting processes.
• Lead individual client forecasting and revenue analysis initiatives.
• Conduct quarterly variance analysis comparing actual performance against forecasts.
• Coordinate with internal teams and external partners to resolve forecasting discrepancies and reporting issues.
• Support strategic financial planning through data-driven analysis and recommendations.
Reporting & Data Management
• Develop, maintain, and enhance dashboards and KPI reporting tools using business intelligence platforms.
• Translate financial and operational data into clear visualizations and actionable insights for leadership and clients.
• Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual client reporting packages.
• Respond to ad-hoc internal and external financial reporting requests.
• Support data management initiatives, including data mapping, scorecard creation, and reporting process enhancements.
• Identify opportunities to automate and streamline reporting workflows.
People & Team Management
• Oversee a team of royalty analysts while providing strategic guidance, coaching and mentorship.
• Use strong organizational skills and managerial judgment to manage the team effectively and maximize team effectiveness.
Financial Due Diligence & Risk Assessment
• Conduct financial analysis of prospective and existing licensees using Dun & Bradstreet (D&B) reports, audited financial statements, and other supporting documentation.
• Obtain and validate financial references, bank references, and related due diligence materials.
• Perform payment history reviews and risk assessments for prospective and existing licensees.
• Provide recommendations related to credit risk, financial exposure, and operational considerations.
Royalty Management & Licensee Operations
• Manage end-to-end royalty processes for clients and licensees.
• Manage invoicing, payment tracking, and cash application processes.
• Support licensees with reporting requirements and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.
• Maintain strong relationships with clients and licensees.
• Identify and implement process improvements to enhance royalty operations and reporting accuracy.
Accounts Receivable & Cash Flow Management
• Oversee accounts receivable reporting, tracking, and reconciliation processes.
• Lead internal AR meetings and manage follow-ups on outstanding balances.
• Manage monthly and weekly cash flow forecasting, including risk assessments and scenario analysis.
• Support efforts to improve cash collections and overall working capital management.
Audit & Compliance Support
• Support internal and external audit processes by preparing documentation, invoices, and supporting reports.
• Issue audit invoices and manage audit-related accounts receivable activities.
Qualifications
• Bachelor's or associate degree with business background
• Minimum 5-8 years of experience in licensing and royalty accounting
• Minimum 3-5 years of people management experience
• Attention to detail, able to work under pressure to deadlines and with initiative in a fast-paced environment
• Proactive, hands-on problem-solving approach
• Highly effective written and verbal communication skills at all levels, credibility with senior management
• Excellent computer skills; experience in Microsoft Office Suite, including advanced Excel skills.
• Team player with a positive can-do approach
Preferred Skills
• Previous experience utilizing Brand Comply (or other contract/royalty system) and MS Dynamics AX preferred, but not required
Location
This role will be based in our New York Office.
Salary/Benefits
$118,000 - $153,000 /year USD
Salary may vary based upon relevant experience, time in role, business sector, and geographic location.
