POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Affiliate Hitting Coach will work closely with the Director, Hitting Development and necessary auxiliary staff to implement, execute, and track evidence-based offensive development. It is a uniformed position that will assist in the daily fulfillment of individual player plans.
As the Red Sox continue to build a team capable of being THE standard in player AND staff development, we are looking for candidates who are organized with uncompromising attention to detail, inquisitive, intellectually curious, data-driven, and open minded. Due to the nature of the role, the candidate must also possess strong interpersonal, communication, and teamwork/leadership skills.
This position is seasonal, with full-time consideration for candidates with relevant experience.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Collaborate with Hitting Coordinator and Assistant Hitting Coach to create and implement daily hitting practice plans.
• Coordinate with Assistant Hitting Coach to organize the workday and maximize efficiency.
• Deliver Advanced Reports and Game Plans to hitters.
• Operate and utilize our tools including Blast Motion, HitTrax, Trajekt, internal software and others.
• Lead the hitting portion of Player Performance Meetings and report on hitter goal performance to the player and staff.
• Maintain consistent communication with the Coordinator, Hitting Development, Director, Hitting Development, and ML Hitting Coach in order to streamline the integration to players that are promoted or demoted.
• Attend and assist MLB Spring Training.
COMPETENCIES:
• Extensive experience evaluating and prescribing best-in-class drills to address deficiencies in each individual player.
• Able to develop programming towards organizationally defined KPI's.
• Understanding of how to construct training environments that put position players in a position to improve skill and/or talent.
• Able to cultivate trust and player buy-in.
• Willing and able to use technology to maximize the effectiveness of programming.
• Able to develop key takeaways from large amounts of data to identify high leverage areas of development for each player.
