Overview and Responsibilities
We’re looking for a dynamic, driven and savvy VP of Design with a knowledge, passion, curiosity and love of black culture to support what’s hot, what’s next and what matters at BET Networks. As the VP of Design you will lead a multidisciplinary team in conceptualizing and producing design for brand, promo and 360 marketing campaigns across linear, social, digital, print and SVOD platforms. You will report to the SVP of Brand Creative as well as collaborate with the VP Creative Director, Creative Directors, Writer / Producers, Copywriters and others to develop on-brand strategic solutions. You will manage creative work from research to storyboarding, pitching to production, while providing direction, creative vision and constructive feedback.
Our ideal candidate would be an experienced creative executive with deep expertise in print, digital, experiential, motion design and animation. You will be responsible for leading, motivating and inspiring a team of Art Directors, Designers, Animators and Project Managers in developing best-in-class marketing creative. We will look to you to maintain the highest conceptual and production standards, while constantly ensuring brand integrity and consistency within a fast-paced, high-volume work environment.
Responsibilities
• Oversee brand design strategy and production for marketing campaigns on all platforms, including promos, network launches and toolkits, image campaigns, show opens and packages, experiential branding, key art and print and more
• Lead in all stages of the creative process, from interpreting the creative brief, research and development to storyboarding and full production
• Present concepts in fully-produced pitches to the internal team as well as outside clients and partners
• Articulate creative strategies to senior leadership and across cross-functional teams
• Direct and collaborate with photographers, illustrators, retouch artists and printers
• Work closely with the Project Managers to develop production schedules, team assignments and project deliverables
• Take responsibility to ensure on-time delivery of the highest quality product
• Build and maintain effective relationships with partners across the department and network, including show runners, producers and department leads
• Seek out, build and strengthen relationships with creative and production vendors
• Help lead creative brainstorming on a range of campaigns and brand priorities
• Maintain and manage an efficient work flow among the team
• Support the art directors, designers and animators with encouragement and constructive feedback
• Stay current and up-to-date with new design trends, techniques and processes; seek out and recommend new best practices; drive creative design evolution
• Inspire and motivate the team to produce ground breaking work
• Conceptualize and direct still photo shoots
Basic Qualifications
• 12 plus years in design, media, and/or relevant entertainment industry experience
• 5 years of art direction/project lead experience and managing creative teams
• Advanced skills in motion and print design, demonstrating strong creative and art direction abilities
• Expertise in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, AfterEffects, InDesign)
Additional Qualifications
• Experience managing teams of 2D and 3D animators
• Flawless communication and presentation skills
• Ability to mentor junior staff
• Knowledge of printing processes and principles (including paper and press specification, pre-press proofing etc.)
• Experience directing photo shoots and working with celebrity talent
• Exceptional design portfolio
