Description
Job title: Analyst, Global Insight
Responsible to: Senior Artist Insight Manager
Department: Global Insight
Location of work: Kensington Village, W14 (relocated to King’s Cross in mid 2018)
Main purpose of role
UMG’s Global Insight team manages the most powerful and effective data sets and research capabilities in the music industry. As well as utilising sales, commercial / partner data, and social media analytics, the Global Insight team manages extensive consumer survey data from around the world, delivering unique detail into evolving attitudes and behaviours of today’s music consumers.
One of the Artist Insight team’s key functions is to deliver in-depth analysis, recommendations and trend information for UMG Global Priority artists across all of the touchpoints they have with their fans. As we are a global team, the role requires somebody with a truly international flare who has an understanding of and passion for working across different markets.
This role calls for an enthusiastic and pro-active team player; it is specifically focused around researching and tracking our roster of artist’s both new and established across key music territories. Aspects that will be covered include; global awareness levels, the audience profile, connection drivers, and on occasions researching elements of their outputs, live, audio & or visual (pre, mid, and sometimes post campaign).
This role requires supporting the Senior Artist Insight Manager on projects from start to finish. Whilst the Analyst will be involved in most aspects of project work, there will be a heavy focus on data analysis and interpreting results across several sources.
Main deliverables & tasks
• Supporting Senior Artist Insight Manager on a day to day basis. This can include:
• Quantitative research design – survey set-up, questionnaire writing, and material sourcing
• Commercial partner data analysis
• Social listening
• Data entry - ensuring databases are accurate and regularly updated
• Brainstorming / ideation
• Working with Senior Artist Insight Manager to develop reports - preparing “skeleton” structure with key charts, then taking ad-hoc requests throughout development
• Manage the research agency relationships, in terms of timelines and project progress to guarantee the delivery of results to the agreed timelines
• Presenting analysis / findings to Senior Artist Insight Manager and other members of the team
• Assist in preparation of material for monthly Global Insight Newsletter and Backstage portal
• Work closely with the whole Global Insight team, collaborate and work as part of one team
• Leverage insight projects across disciplines to deliver true value back to key stakeholders
Person Specification
Essential Skills
• Passionate about market research - strong advocate for research who truly believes in its value
• Passionate about the music industry - not just music, but the music business overall
• Naturally curious and inquisitive about consumer behaviour
• Confident, highly numerate, pro-active, creative individual able to work in a team
• Extremely strong attention to detail, organisation skills, ability to multi task and prioritise
• Ability to work in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment
• Strong communication and writing skills
• Research skills
• Extensive quantitative research experience (ideally agency side) in an insight focused role working across multiple clients / brands
• Experience to include (but not limited to) survey set-up and design, analysis (e.g. cross tab analysis), chart creation, report writing, presenting experience
• Comfortable with large data sets
• Well versed with creating themes and summarizing large open-ended survey responses
• Ability to bring data to life in an intelligent and compelling way
• Strategic thinking
• Comfortable in giving artist based recommendations based on multiple sources; survey, social listening, internal knowledge, partner data, industry factors, and instinct
• Ability to fully immerse oneself into each project regardless of the genre and/or artist
• Keynote and Excel expertise is essential
• Qualitative research experience valued
• Scripting, basic video editing valued
