Documentary Film Editor
You Are My Memory
Palm Springs, CAThis is a Part Time Job
Seeking a documentary film (video) editor for a Personal Holocaust Documentary for a project entitled, You Are My Memory, about a director's (my) exploration of her mother and maternal family's Holocaust experience escaping Occupied Paris and ultimately hiding in plain sight at the ''chateau'' of a retired General in ''Free France'' (the Grenoble area). The decades spanning film, with footage in formats from Hi-8 and Betacam to 4K, focuses on memory/forgetting, childhood through elder age and on matrilineal generations (mother/daughter bonds). The immediate goal is short form (trailer, a scene and/or 10 minute mini-doc) by March '27 and the longer term result will be a feature doc.
Requirements: proven track record in documentary film editing; willingness to work collaboratively and interactively with director; knowledge of French and at least basic familiarity with France and the Shoah/Holocaust; engagement/stake in the topic; availability to engage with the project (timeframe and time commitment to be discussed, but beginning no later than Dec '26).
Location: I am based in Palm Springs, CA. Would love to find someone local (in the Coachella Valley) to work with, though the greater LA area is also feasible to allow for some in person discussion. Obviously, virtual connections make long distance possible as well if the fit is compelling.
This is paid work with $ amount TBD. Trailer and/or short will be self-funded and used to support grant applications and other fundraising for the feature doc.
Salary/Benefits
See above/below/to be discussed.
Additional Information
I am an independent filmmaker/professor working on a short doc to begin with, then once I get funding, will proceed to a feature doc on the same topic.
