Vice President (VP), Business & Legal Affairs – Media Rights
Role Summary:
The Vice President (VP), Business & Legal Affairs – Media Rights will manage all aspects of legal advice relating to domestic and international media distribution for WWE (including negotiating and drafting agreements related to media rights agreements) as well as all aspects of WWE's international offices and performance centers.
Key Responsibilities:
• Negotiate, draft, administer, close and provide ongoing counsel with respect to all requested domestic and international television, cable, and streaming media distribution deals and related media rights agreements.
• Maintain and advise on media rights management.
• Maintain ongoing, positive relationships with internal and external business partners.
• Stay abreast of market and industry trends in the various domestic and international entertainment sectors.
• Draft and maintain legal documentation for WWE international offices, performance centers, and employees.
• Provide all necessary assistance for related ongoing entertainment litigation.
• Work collaboratively with other functional areas in WWE's Business & Legal Affairs team, including Intellectual Property, Government Affairs, Entertainment, Live Events, Sales and Sponsorships, Litigation, and Corporate.
• Maintain a direct and open relationship with International and Media departments, including Television, Studios, Digital, Live Events and Music; provide exemplary legal support and counsel for all related matters.
• Supervise and assist in managing shared paralegal resources.
Qualifications:
• The successful Vice President (VP), Business & Legal Affairs – Media Rights will be seasoned and experienced and must specifically excel in high visibility, high stress, and ''roll up your sleeves'' environments. Applicant will have served in a similar role within a media, sports, television production, or live events company and will also have a proven track record of skillfully navigating deals and successfully negotiating on behalf of a company.
• A minimum of 10+ years of experience as a practicing lawyer dealing with media rights, preferably including both company-side and law firm practices.
• Leadership and managerial experience with a company engaged in the entertainment, media, or sports industries strongly desired.
• Significant experience negotiating and crafting licensing, distribution, and other commercial agreements, specifically in entertainment or media.
• Experience negotiating and drafting distribution agreements with or for basic cable networks, pay cable networks, and SVOD platforms (like Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, etc.) a plus.
• Strong and effective negotiating skills and excellent drafting skills.
• Detail-oriented and demonstrated ability to exercise independent judgment.
• International experience a plus with the capability of bringing a global, multi-cultural perspective; experience working on cross-border transactions and joint ventures, television production, licensing, and rights issues also of value.
• Law degree from a well-regarded American law school and must be admitted to practice law in at least one U.S. state and be eligible to seek admission as in-house counsel in Connecticut.
