Senior Director, Analytics (XFL)
ABOUT THE XFL
The new XFL will reimagine football for the 21st century when it kicks off in early 2020. Delivering authentic, high-energy football for the whole family at an affordable price, the XFL will offer fast-paced games with fewer play stoppages and simpler rules. The league will launch with eight teams in markets across the country, 45-man active rosters, and a 10-week regular season schedule with a postseason consisting of two semifinal playoff games and a championship game. The XFL is a single entity that owns the league and all teams, employing professionals at the Stamford, CT headquarters as well as in each of the markets that the teams call home.
ABOUT THE POSITION
The Senior Director of Data Analytics will support the company with analysis and insights to drive a successful launch and operation of the new sports league. This position will be responsible for hands-on quantitative analytics for the XFL at both the league and team levels, alongside defining a data strategy roadmap, helping to stand-up a data and BI technical architecture, and building the XFL analytics team. This position requires a well-rounded analytics leader with experience querying, collecting, capturing, modelling and aggregating data. It also requires experience with constructing dashboards and reports, conducting marketing research, and effectively presenting results. He/she must have the ability to derive empirical insights and have enough business knowledge to inform decision-making with a synthesis of the data and facts.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
• Devise XFL's Data Strategy Roadmap working with football and business stakeholders at the league and team levels to form the basis for leveraging analytics to drive decisions and fan experiences
• Partner with XFL business leaders to proactively determine how data and insights can better inform and support their goals, and drive XFL growth across:
• Revenue streams - including ticket and merchandise sales, content consumption, social media, and advertising and sponsorship activity
• Business operations - understand business drivers and trends, forecast performance with near- and long-range outlook, identify opportunities to optimize performance and accelerate growth
• Fan experience – advanced analytics on XFL Fan behavior, including preferences and patterns, customer journey and engagement; in the long-term this should translate to building outFan 360 and CLTV models
• Gameday experience - enhancement of the in-stadium experience (pre-, during and post-game) and support of football ops considerations
• Digital and Media - Analytics that support marketing and media planning, PR, IR, O&O and Social platform interactions, user engagement, sentiment, consumption, followers, media impact, journey, and sales funnel
• TV and Broadcast - content analytics for TV ratings and audience measurement
• Guide and prioritize work of the team based on organizational needs, readiness and benefit
• Develop and lead an adaptive, innovative, and future-looking analytics team that includes agile and actionable business intelligence operations, advanced analytics, and sports/fan research and insights
• Establish clear objectives and framework achievements for each member of the XFL Analytics team. Recruit, recognize and nurture talent
• Proactively manage team growth through thoughtful long-term internal and external resource management and budgeting
WHAT YOU WILL BRING
The ideal candidate must be a seasoned individual leader with executive level communication skills, collaboration and influencing skills, and thorough command of business intelligence, analytics and data science within the media and sports industries. The Senior Director shall have a proven track record of successfully leveraging, communicating and implementing solutions for actionable, transformative data insights, and a passion for managing and developing high-performing teams.
• 10 years of professional experience in corporate business intelligence, data solutions or data strategy roles, preferably within subscription and/or content distribution businesses
• TV, Entertainment, Media, or Sports industry experience is a must
• Thorough knowledge of and relationships with data providers and platforms in the data space
• Track record of building successful relationships across organizations to promote the impact and value of data and insights in all departments
• A broad understanding of core and emerging analytics methods, approaches and statistical techniques and how they can be deployed to drive value within a digital business
• Proven experience implementing ambitious, innovative and next generation data strategies, including building and managing associated budgets
• Experience and high comfort level working in environments that requires both ''real time'' and longer-cycle reporting and insights
• Demonstrated ability to assess reporting and modelled results from perspective of business / operations leads and to adapt output accordingly
• Active listener who communicates effectively (both verbal and written) with internal and external stakeholders and builds relationships with key individuals necessary for collaboration
• Strong knowledge of marketing, media, social, web/mobile analysis, audience targeting tools, and vendors, including both quantitative tracking and research methodologies
• Clear, logical, precise and strategic thinker
• Organized, detail-oriented, effective at time management
• Self-starter who will ''roll up sleeves;'' comfortable working in a startup, entrepreneurial environment
• Strong executor of plans who demonstrates ownership and accountability for results
• Highest standards of integrity
• Bachelor's degree in quantitative discipline (e.g. engineering, math, statistics, etc.)
• MBA and/or advanced degree in business intelligence or related field of study preferred
