Full Time Job
The Social News Director is responsible for the cross-platform strategy and execution of real-time news and WWE show coverage across our digital/social ecosystem. This integral role will oversee a staff of editors accountable for the 24/7 pulse of the sports-entertainment news cycle, inclusive of real-time content around WWE programming and relevant reporting outside the ring in pop culture. The ideal candidate will be boundlessly passionate about developing and breaking news, plus, both meticulous in precision and tireless in the pursuit of satisfying WWE's massive global audience.
Key Responsibilities:
• Lead day-to-day news production efforts for the Social Platforms, flagship WWE website, and WWE Apps in various formats
• Oversee all-platform coverage for live WWE programming, including real-time show results and story-advancing content
• Direct, assign and review all breaking news reporting in various formats, with 24/7 accessibility
• Actively seek and evaluate news story opportunities within WWE and beyond WWE, based on world news and trends
• Demonstrate and reinforce best reporting practices in written content, including headlines, social posts, articles and more
• Evaluate and create innovative methods for leveraging multimedia (e.g. video, visual GFX) and social platform features in delivering information to WWE's audience
• Collaborate with key members of WWE Public Relations, Corporate Communications, Creative Writing and Talent Relations departments to deliver timely, accurate and on-brand messaging across platforms
• Coordinate with visual design, photography and video production teams to support daily multi-faceted, multimedia content creation
• Develop and oversee content plans to support key WWE initiatives and announcements via social and digital platforms
• Manage short- and long-term calendars based on seasonal, topical and historical milestones
• Analyze user and consumption data to optimize efforts and provide guidance to team
• Editorial review of content in various forms for accuracy and grammatical precision
• Produce and conduct interviews with talent and related parties
• Keep current with WWE programming, storylines, talent, brands and products
Qualifications:
• 8 years in digital news or editorial content; at least 5 in leadership role
• Strong editorial judgment and innate sense of newsworthiness
• Expertise in writing, editing and developing news stories, headlines and other formats of expression
• Superior written and verbal communication skills
• Proven track record in managing a heavy, steady volume of content and defining process to support such demands in high quality
• Passion for emerging media trends, especially video and new social platform products
• Proficiency in leveraging various media as a content cultivation resource
• Motivational and influential leadership style
• Deep understanding of digital and social media metrics
• Experience working with content and video management systems (Drupal, WordPress, etc.)
