Senior Story Editor/Lead Writer - Show about Royals
Wondery is hiring for a Freelance Senior Story Editor/Lead Writer for a new weekly narrative show that tells contemporary and historical stories about royals from around the globe. This role will work closely and collaboratively with writers, producers, and hosts. We're looking for an experienced storyteller who can easily inhabit other people's points of view, pivot between comedy and tragedy, and find hidden and surprising parallels between today's headlines and events from the past.
In this role, you'll be expected to:
-Lead pitch meetings for future stories
-Read biographies, memoirs, and articles to help shape and inform outline and script editing
-Work with writers to edit and shape detailed outlines for stories that span over one to three 40-minute episode arcs
-Ensure that each episode has a clear three-act structure and each set of episodes has a compelling thematic arc
-Provide structural feedback and line edits on three drafts of each script
-Lead with the highest of editorial and journalistic standards as we tell real people's stories
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
-5-10 years of experience writing and editing long-form highly-scripted shows
-Proven track record for stellar audio writing and editing skills
-Self-starter and excited to be a team player and leader
PREFERRED QUALITIES:
-A background in audio, as well as screenwriting, playwriting, or some other creative medium
-An interest in history
-An ear for comedy
