Part Time Unpaid Internship
Intern, Legal (2022-2023)
Summary:
The Legal Department Intern will work directly with all members of the Nationals Legal Department, engaging on a broad variety of matters aimed at supporting the business goals of the ball club. Duties will include, but are not limited to, legal research, drafting of legal documents, contract process management, litigation and discovery support, liaising with various Nationals business-side departments, and departmental administrative assistance. Qualified candidates will be efficiency-minded and detail-oriented.
Duration of Internship: September – April
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Conduct legal research and draft internal legal memoranda as assigned.
• Assist the Company in the course of responding to subpoenas and similar obligations in a timely manner and work with other departments to coordinate the same.
• Under Department supervision, create initial drafts of language for commercial agreements and other legal documents arising in course of business.
• Become a subject matter expert on the content of assigned governing documents and materials specific to the Company and its status as a Major League Baseball Club.
• Promote continual development, optimization and implementation of contracts creation and legal review processes and standards to maximize efficiency.
• Provide administrative support to all members of the Department, including but not limited to scheduling, document management, billing and intra-department communication.
Requirements:
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
• Current status as a 3L or functional equivalent from an accredited DMV-area law school
• Excellent academic credentials
• Strong ability to multi-task
• A demonstrated interest in employment and labor law; intellectual property law; data privacy law and advertising law preferred (preferred)
• A demonstrated interest working in professional baseball and/or other sports leagues or franchises (preferred)

Physical/Environmental Requirements
• Office: Working conditions are normal for an office environment. Work may require occasional weekend and/or evening work.
