Nationals Philanthropies is the official charitable arm of the Washington Nationals. Its mission is to help children, families, and communities thrive through sport-based youth development and access to healthy food. The organization delivers on this commitment by spurring investment in community-based programs that address the disparity of opportunity for residents of the region.
Since 2007, the foundation has issued over $6.8 million in grants to local organizations. Through its signature program, the Nationals Youth Baseball Academy, the organization operates year-round youth development and baseball instruction activities, as well as a holistic food access program – supporting the delivery of nearly 1 million meals into the Washington, DC region since 2018. Since 2013, the organization has invested $50 million for facility construction and annual programming through the Academy.
Summary:
Organizational excellence and community impact requires stewardship of our loyal donor base, cultivation of new funders, and strategic collaboration with programmatic staff. Nationals Philanthropies is seeking a Coordinator, Development and Fundraising to support the activities and processes of a dynamic fundraising team. The successful candidate will be motivated and passionate about ensuring the organization's success by supporting major gift, corporate and foundation fundraising, cultivation and stewardship events, and donor/prospect data management. The Development and Fundraising Coordinator will assume significant responsibilities in the functioning of Nationals Philanthropies' front office team, and will also work collaboratively across other departments within Nationals Philanthropies and the Washington Nationals Baseball Club.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Development and Fundraising Data Management
• Maintain command of accurate donor and donation data at all times; track and manage development records in Salesforce platform, including:
• Prospect identification, cultivation activities, and next steps
• Donor contact information, notes, pledges, and payments
• Prospect and donor communications including special invitations, fundraising events, and similar activities
• Revenue campaigns and appeals, goals, and related opportunity records
• Email subscriber lists
• Work across marketing, development, and operations functions to ensure smooth and accurate information flow between integrated systems for online donations and email marketing.
• Export and format Salesforce reports for portfolio management, board reports, communications and appeals, and other activities
• Create, update, and disseminate reports and dashboards to track fundraising activity and progress to goals
• Learn best practices and development expertise related to Salesforce for purposes of optimizing donor communication, information tracking, and pipeline segmentation
Fundraising Support
• Conduct prospect research, prepare meeting briefs, and support other donor engagement activities for the development team
• Use research tools to build informed prospect pipeline across sectors
• Manage processes related to acknowledgment, recognition, and stewardship
• Collaborate creatively in development of donor engagement and appeal opportunities
• Support grant fundraising by supplying documents and reports as needed
• Draft development-related correspondence and communications as directed
• Receive and respond to inbound communication (phone and email) as directed
Finance and Administration
• Manage weekly revenue collection, payment processing, and reporting process with finance team
• Coordinate routine reconciliation with finance team to ensure accurate records and support annual audit process as needed
• Lead A/R tracking, maintenance, and collections, providing accurate reporting, reminders, and next steps to team members monthly to ensure timely collection of payments
• Deploy consistent and accurate information across internal departments to yield optimal results
Board Relations
• Support the administrative needs of Board management, such as developing and maintaining board engagement plans; distributing, collecting and collating annual surveys to produce an annual survey summary; working with Board and Board EAs to set meeting dates; and maintaining organized files on the share drive
• Manage organization's use of Boardvantage to upload and communicate meeting materials and other Board-related documents
• Manage logistics for virtual and in-person Board meetings, including but not limited to securing meeting spaces and venues, catering, A/V and conference needs, materials, and logistics like parking
Events
• Support portfolio of fundraising events, including building prospect lists, providing on-site support, and fulfilling sponsorship benefits
• Support development and event staff at small and large-scale cultivation events
• Assist with special events where donors are present, including in-stadium activities
Requirements:
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
• Bachelor's Degree or equivalent military experience
• Excellent computer skills, with a strong familiarity in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
• Professional experience in nonprofit development / fundraising (ideal, but not required)
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities necessary to perform essential functions
• Strong verbal and written communication skills – ability to communicate with staff and prepare written reports
• Strong time management and organizational skills, ability to take initiative and see a task from start through completion
• Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously in fast-paced environment
• (Preferred) Experience with CRM platform (Salesforce.com or similar) and donation platform (Classy or similar).
• (Preferred) Experience with core functionality and uses of Excel

Physical/Environmental Requirements
• Office: Working conditions are normal for an office environment
• Position will require occasional weekend and/or evening work
Compensation:
The projected wage rate for this position is $42,500- $55,000 per year. Actual pay is based on several factors, including but not limited to the applicant's: qualifications, skills, expertise, education/training, certifications, and other organization requirements. Starting salaries for new employees are frequently not at the top of the applicable salary range.
