The Job
As a brand that goes to market with curation and context, Turner Classic Movies generates abundant short- and long-form editorial in support of a wide array of TCM businesses-from the linear network to place-based activations, branded product lines and publications. This position is responsible for the conceptual development and execution of TCM editorial content for ongoing and one-off initiatives, and the ideal candidate will possess not only sound project management skills but also deep film knowledge and skills in formatting for print and digital publication
Also, this position drives TCM's YouTube presence by creating activations, promotions, and content that grows our followers and deepens engagement.
Ongoing editorial responsibilities include:
Expand and grow TCM YoiuTube platform.
Articles for TCM.COM and WatchTCM app
TCM Film Festival Publications (1/annum)
TCM Cruise Publication (1/annum)
Bonhams Catalogs (1-2/annum)
Additionally, this position will craft or assign/manage copy for a wide array of promotional and editorial needs for digital platforms, as a priority YOUTUBE, but including: microsites, splash pages, email blasts, web news copy, digital banners, etc.
The successful candidate must be a writer/producer who has hands-on copy experience writing and editing content. A conceptual candidate is preferable to an ''advancer'', one who takes a given concept and moves it forward. It is desirable but not essential tha the candidate be able to edit film (physically or direct edits). The successful candidate must demonstrate exceptional attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with both internal parties and external freelancers. In short, strong organizational, time management and effective communication skills are key to on-time and on-budget deliverables, while deep film knowledge and some degree of copywriting/copyediting experience are key to deliverables that are on-brand and on-point.
The Daily
Social Media Activations and Content for YouTube.
Assist in the development of a comprehensive You Tube Social strategy. Based on this strategy, conceive and execute content and activities that grow TCM's YouTube audience. Enrich, enlarge and deepen engagement with existing followers through the TCM positioning. Align You Tube content with monthly priorities and quarterly tentpoles. ''Feed the platform'' as necessary with archival content and coordinate that accessing that content across departments as needed.
Routine Editorial Production:
Assist in ensuring all copy needs are met-in a timely and cost effective manner-in support of all ongoing TCM initiatives, including feature articles, short form articles, show synopses, etc. Responsibilities include editorial audits, project selection, assignment scheduling, communication with writers, tracking/management of revision requests, invoicing/billing, etc. Must be able to work effectively with multiple internal parties and external freelancers, and to track assignments against timelines and budgets.
Special Publications:
Develop editorial strategies and manage production of all copy for 1-off publications in support of activations and events such as TCM Classic Film Festival and TCM/Bonhams auction catalogs. Research potential writers, refine editorial assignments, manage writer communications, account for all internal feedbacks and prioritize/relay change requests, provide copyediting/copywriting oversight. Also manage associated short-form digital/promotional copy for these activations-from show descriptions to talent bios: trafficking, compiling feedbacks, routing for approvals. Management of multiple editorial drafts & rounds to ensure all feedbacks are accommodated and all versions remain consistent across media.
Promotional/Marketing Copy:
Craft or assign/edit various pieces of short form promotional copy. Generate concepts, draft and/or assign to freelancers, route for approvals, compile feedbacks. May include product descriptions, emails, digital banner copy, emails, etc. in support of events, direct-to-consumer merchandise, licensed/branded product lines.
The Essentials
• High School graduate.
• Eight years experience in a manager level editorial position. Deep and credentialed experience win social media growing platform followers, particularly but not exclusive to YOU TUBE.
• Active on social platforms.
• Notoriety or achievement activating in social media.
• Ease and intuitive understanding of each platform's social idiosyncracies related to audiences.
• Excellent communication skills as evidenced by collaborating with other departments or teams. Credentials in alliance building.
