Job Title: Director, Mechanical Licensing
A little bit about our team:
The Mechanical licensing team is responsible for clearing and licensing all WCM songs released in physical and digital audio format. By working closely with internal departments, record labels, various major publishers, the Harry Fox Agency, and the MLC, the Mechanical Licensing Department makes sure our writers' songs are cleared, licensed at the proper mechanical rates, and set up for payment. The Mechanicals team also manages all back-end duties for digital claiming, including YouTube and Facebook claming. Mechanical and digital royalties are a vital source of revenue for our songwriters so we are looking for detailed oriented applicants who are ready to get involved in this exciting facet of the industry.
Your role:
Under general supervision, with latitude for independent judgment and decision, is responsible for managing and administering the mechanical licensing and digital claiming aspects of the Administration Department.
Here you'll get to:
• Supervise the analyses, verification, correction (if necessary) and execution of licenses through research and review with in-house and third party stakeholders and available data sources; communicate directly with affected parties to ascertain reasons behind inadequate or delinquent execution of licensing agreements; coordinate the adjudication and/or settlement thereof, if problems arise.
• Be the primary contact of affiliated World Wide offices, as well as outside stakeholders in connection with specialized or strategic mechanical licensing uses.
• Negotiate special rates for license and serves as liaison and ''front-line representative'' for the Company in all facets of the mechanical licensing activities.
• Interact with representatives from the IT, Legal, Royalty, Creative and Copyright departments of the Company, as well as with attorneys, agents, clients, third party music users, HFA, CMRRA, BMI, and ASCAP.
• Participate in departmental meetings as a key member of management team; prepare correspondence and requisite reports.
• Confer with VP, Mechanical Licensing, Copyright and Archives to implement changes needed to accommodate ever developing trends in licensing, technology, and record label policies and practices.
• Manage and meet regularly with teams regarding digital claiming.
• Be responsible for the overall direction, coordination and evaluation of employees. Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with Organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include, but not limited to, interviewing; hiring and training employees; planning; assigning; and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
About you:
• A high school level education, or its equivalent, and, a baccalaureate degree with a major in accounting and/or business administration.
• Five (5) years of responsible professional experience in Music Publishing Administration within a Mechanical Licensing department, at least two (2) years of which shall have been in a supervisory capacity, or, a satisfactory equivalent of education, training and experience in related fields and/or educational disciplines, sufficient to qualify for the requirements of position.
• Understanding and familiarity with digital claiming for YouTube and Facebook.
• Handle and safeguard confidential and proprietary information.
• Effectively communicate internally and/or externally in a manner consistent with the company's Code of Conduct and core values.
• Come to work on time without restriction as to time commitment.
• Read and understand materials and documents and have the ability to recognize and extract critical data and information.
• Perform all diverse physical tasks necessary to complete all the essential duties and responsibilities of the position.
• Work at and utilize all necessary functions of a computer in order to complete all the essential duties and responsibilities of the position.
• General computer skills and a working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
• Knowledge of general business practices.
