The Legal Department is responsible for enforcing WMG's rights in the recorded music catalog repertoire controlled by its U.S. record labels, managing litigations involving WMG's recorded music catalog rights in conjunction with WMG's corporate litigation in-house counsel, fielding inquiries and claims from third parties, researching WMG's recorded music catalog rights, filing applications to register copyrights in and to WMG's recorded music repertoire, and managing WMG's relationships with the labor unions with which WMG's U.S. record labels have collective bargaining agreements.
Members of the Legal Department work closely with employees in the Business Affairs, Finance, Production, Operations, New Media, and Marketing departments of each label client to fulfill the above-referenced responsibilities for the recordings and records those labels release.
Your role:
The candidate hired to fill this position will work with other members of the recorded music copyright registration team to register WMG's sound recordings and related artwork and music videos with the United States Copyright Office (USCO), as well as perform a number of other tasks with respect to such copyrights.
Here you'll get to:
• Work in coordination with our team to draft and file copyright registrations with the USCO for all new sound recordings, music videos, and related artwork, and maintain detailed and accurate records regarding same
• Consult and coordinate with various internal teams to secure information, documents, and materials needed for copyright registration and recordation purposes
• Review recording agreements, contracts, and license agreements to confirm copyright ownership and chain of title
• Ingest and review product release schedules from WMG's record labels
• Prepare responses to the USCO examiners' inquiries regarding applications and timely resolve any issues regarding same
• Prepare documents pertaining to the transfer or change in copyright ownership for recording with the USCO
• Assist with answering incoming inquiries from the corporate litigation team and the business affairs teams at the WMG labels pertaining to copyright registration records
• Routinely receive, track, log, and keep both physical and digital copies of copyright related records organized and updated
• Assist with the ordering and mailing of physical product for deposit with the USCO
About you:

• Strong digital literacy, including accurate data entry skills
• Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
• Prior music industry experience and/or a basic understanding of copyrights as it relates to sound recordings
• Prior experience being responsible for administrative/clerical work
