Assistant Manager, Master Use Licensing, Licensing & Rights Administration Department Recorded Music Rights Administration
WMG - Warner Music Group Department Description:
• The U.S. Recorded Music Rights Administration Division (“RMRA”) is an internal client services organization that consists of four main departments: Artist Royalties & Administration, Licensing & Rights Administration, Publishing Royalties & Administration, and Legal Affairs. RMRA’s primary clients are WMG’s U.S. record labels.
• The Licensing & Rights Administration Department consists of five main groups: Administration, Catalog Research, Master Use Licensing, Revenue Assurance, and Union Relations.
• The Master Use Licensing Group is responsible for internal label and artist clearances in connection with WMG’s rights to exploit its existing catalog recordings (and artist performances) in response to queries from domestic and international divisions, most notably WMG’s catalog record label (Rhino Entertainment) and WMG’s international affiliates and licensees.
High Level Job Description:
The candidate hired to fill this position will be responsible for performing various clearance assignments involving non-exclusive licenses of WMG’s rights in and to its catalog recordings and recording artists.
Detailed Job Description/ Responsibilities:
• Process compilation requests for US WMG repertoire from Warner Music Group Affiliates via the WMG S#ARP clearance system;
• Prioritize clearance workload based on noted priority levels and deadlines for each request; provide answers for each request by or before the deadline;
• Secure approvals for compilations and reissues from WMG label approvers and artist representatives;
• Work with RMRA’s Catalog Research Group to research the applicable rights and restrictions for recordings that we wish to license;
• Work closely with members of the licensing teams at WMG’s affiliates to facilitate the clearance process and resolve any issues that may arise; and
• Perform such other duties as reasonably may be required.
Required
Competencies/Skills:
• Candidate must be able to work well independently and as part of a team;
• Candidate must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills;
• Candidate must possess excellent analytical, mathematical and organizational skills; [and]
• Candidate must be able to meet deadlines consistently and effectively while working under pressure;
• Candidate must be able to manage multiple assignments at any given time and prioritize them effectively and appropriately; and
• Candidate must have strong computer skills, including strong data entry skills (with an emphasis on accuracy) and strong proficiency using Microsoft Office’s Excel, Word and PowerPoint applications; familiarity with Microsoft Office’s Access application is preferred, but not required.
Special Requirements/Preferences:
Preferably, candidates will possess a minimum of 1 to 3 years’ experience working in a position or positions involving music clearances as well as some background in the review, analysis and interpretation of recording agreements and other music industry agreements.
Education Required/Preferred:
• Bachelor’s degree required.
• Additional post-graduate education such as MBA and/or Juris Doctor degree preferred, but not required.
