Turner Sports is the team that delivers sports broadcasts to the WarnerMedia networks like TBS, TNT, and truTV. We are also responsible for operating sites like NCAA.com, NBA.com, and ELEAGUE.com.
The Job
WarnerMedia seeks a Sr. Director Marketing, NHL for the Sports Marketing Overhead department. Reporting to the head of consumer marketing with a dotted line to the head of marketplace image and monetization the Senior Director, Brand & Consumer Marketing, NHL will develop and lead the NHL marketing strategy across linear, digital, and streaming for Turner Sports and Bleacher Report.
The Daily
• Build and oversee a new area of the business for one of our most important partners, while simultaneously onboarding and managing at least two new hires with potential to grow the team further
• Develop a new outlook and approach to WarnerMedia Sports' League partnerships that leverages the multiplatform breadth of Bleacher Report and Turner Sports
• Lead the day-to-day relationship with the NHL
• Work cross functionally with key executives across B/R, Turner Sports and the NHL
• Take a research-driven approach to the development of marketing strategy and plans, requesting data regularly from internal and NHL teams
• Develop and implement the NHL brand strategy across Turner and B/R (with synergies to NHL league marketing efforts)
• Oversee and develop synergistic opportunities for NHL across linear and the B/R ecosystem, including experiential, content, merchandising, talent, etc.
• Oversee the creation of media briefs for TMG and external agencies (where applicable) and the execution of all media plans
• Work cross functionally with linear and digital NHL programming and sales teams (B/R portfolio brand, etc.) to ensure cohesive positioning of the League and our partnership
• Develop strategies and plans to leverage tentpole moments like Playoffs, Winter Classic, season start, Stadium Series, the Finals, etc. to drive awareness and viewership of NHL on TNT and tbs
• Create joint social impact initiatives based on NHL, B/R and TS shared values
• Develop and implement in partnership with the NHL and HBO Max the go-to-marketing strategy for games on HBO Max
• Lead integration of this model across our league partnerships, when applicable
• Continue to oversee brand strategy work for B/R, including oversight and execution of brand/consumer campaigns when/where appropriate
The Essentials
• 10 years of experience in marketing, business, sports or related field
• Bachelor's degree, preferably in marketing, business or related field
• Strategically minded and able to take initiative with minimal direction
• Experience in managing a team as well across functions in an organization and with strategic partners
• Detail oriented and organized, with an eye for good creative
• Data-driven and metrics-oriented
• Deep understanding of the digital and linear consumption landscape and emerging social trends
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Passion for sports with a strong understanding of the NHL
• A strong work ethic, with a great attitude and the ability to be a self-starter
• Experience working with multiple partners to achieve strategic goals
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Drive and Adobe Creative Suite preferred
